As said new pony with foal arrived yesterday, mum was tethered b4..she has a touch of snburn and weepyeye with dryskin all round both eyes..can this be sun related also? what would you use to clean around this area..apart from this mum and foal look good condition..

Do you know her history hun? If she was tethered before you got her, this smacks of poor care and management. Are you 100% certain she doesn't have ragwort poisoning? Ragwort poisoning will cause acute photosensitivity where the pony will appear very badly sunburned. She would have other symptoms like weight loss, depression, lethargy. Having said that, being tethered with no shade will also cause sunburn if nobody bothered to either cover her sensitive areas in factor 50+ suncream or tether her in shade. With your good care now, the sunburn should gradually clear up on its own. Take GREAT care if you're tempted to put anything soothing on the dry area around her eyes. However carefully you apply eg baby cream, sudocream etc etc, it will bleed back into the eyes and could make matters much worse. I'd just get a clean cloth or cotton wool and gently wipe the eye area with boiled cooled water. Keep her out of the sun for a week or so and it should clear up. I'd still recommend being suspicious about ragwort poisoning in a burnt, neglected pony x

Not mine, a friend bought them local and they belonged to an old man in his 70's and family are now selling off as too much for him now, so have been with him sometime he bred from his own stallion. The sun burn is on nose and they look well and alert apart from mares eyes, flies don't help, did say use sterilized water and fly fringe..as did not know what else to suggest. I thought that there might be an eye cream you could buy from shelf..many thanks..
