My horse has got really dry hooves, I use hoof oil 4 times a week but they still seem to crack, especially the soles of his hooves at the moment. I have heard about Kevin Bacon Dressing, can I use this on the soles as well? Anyone recommend anything? He has only recently had his shoes changed so don't want to go down the route of seeing the farrier again if possible.

Definitely don't use oil. Kevin Bacon dressing is good and you can put it on soles too and have you tried the Cornucrescine hoof moisturiser? Have you tried a biotin supplement to strengthen the hoof from the inside? (obviously you can't improve what's there only the new growth)

second what brownmare said, hoof oil blocks out the natural moistures. they will be dry this time of year any way with the dry weather but kevin bacons is the best product or a cheaper option is naf hood moist. also naf pro feet is a fab supplement and doesnt cost the earth either.

I use Kevin Bacon on soles and hoof, plus biotin supplement. So far so good - the dryness we were suffering from has gone.

Don't use oil, stay well clear of it. I use Kevin Bacon its fabulous, before I apply I go round all the nail holes and any little cracks or nicks with nail hole disenfectant. Then Kevin Bacon soles then hoofs, voila pretty paws :D
When I first started using KB I used it every day for 2 weeks now I apply every other day or less.
Incidently, my hoof brush broke so I started putting KB on with my fingers, I now have the most amazing set of talons :D

Ditto Kevin Bacon and def NO oil, it acts as a barrier for moisture.

If you can give them a good soaking in water each day for 20mins or so, or if you cant do that, make a small boggy patch in the field they can stand in :)

Oooo interesting!!! I've been using an overlarge sponge and getting it on my hands too and it's taken me till your post to look at my nails and realise I actually have some for once!!! :s

I put Kevin Bacon stuff on daily with my hands & when I've finished instead of wiping it off my hands I rub it around my nails - they've never looked so good!

I am always breaking my nails when I am doing something around the stables, sounds like KB is the product for me and my horse!!!! So someone mentioned vaseline, this helps does it as I thought it was oil based. Maybe I am being stupid but just can someone confirm. Thanks

I've used hoof moist, cornucrescine and camrosa (needed to use up the rest of a tub) all with good results :) I started using kevin bacon last week and his feet are already looking good as are my nails :p Although I don't recommend letting it go on its side on a hot day, especially in a car... mum was not best pleased when I found the tub had leaked and got onto her leather seats - oops!

I've used Kevin Bacon before and it was good- using Equimins Hoof Moisturising Cream at the moment and that's doing a great job too.
