Dry dog food

We have just put our 1year old Bedlington terrier on Pedigree dry dog food, it seems good because the chunks are small, so its easy for her to eat. She's been a bit of a fussy eater. First we had her on Winalot food, she loved that but we always wanted to put her on dry food as soon as she was older. Then we bought a big bag of working dog food, which had lots of protein which was recommended because she's so active! But we realised this was like muesli kind of thing (if you get what I mean!) so then switched her to bakers to see if she liked that, not too keen, i think the chunks are too big and after having a look on here and seeing that no one would feed their dog on it because of additives etc. we won't be doing that again! So what do you think? Will she be ok on Pedigree? Also should i be putting water in with it?

, and i know you're not meant to, but we're just trying to find something she likes! Our old cocker spaniel jus wouldn't settle to one food, had to keep changing hers as well

She should be fine on that. If she starts to get fussy about it, dont just change it. Leave it down for an hour. if she doen,t eat then take it up untill her next meal time. She should quickly learn that that is all she is getting to eat, so she should eat it!!!
 
it could be that you are changing her food so much that is making her fussy, no healthy dog will starve itself- i would be tempted to leave it down untill it is eaten, or offer it to her for half an hour in the morning and then again in the evening.
personally i wouldn't feed anything pedigree or bakers, both are full of additives that can effect behaviour and health. my jack had an awful skin reaction to bakers.
i know i said 'don't changer her food to often' but i would try her on something like james wellbeloved, burns, arden grange- something additive free. whilst it is expensive to buy compared with bakers, the food is high quality so you needn't feed so much. if she is a working dog you could try csj: http://www.csjk9.com/ they come in big 15kg sacks and are reasonably cheap too
 
I'd really recommend the complete dog biscuits made by "healthy option pet food". I can't find a weblink for them that works

Both my JRTs are on JWB and have been since i got Pilget and Pumpkin i kept from a litter i bred and all the puppies were started on it. They are never greedy , eat what they are give and look great. One of the puppies went to a friend who feeds her other dogs wet dog food (any brand) Puppy stayed on JWB but ovb realised his 'brother' was getting something that smelt far more interesting so he started to leave his dry food. Friend gave in and change him to wet food too - cue loose and more frequesnt poo's and eating his mess if he got the chance. yuk
Told her not to give him different food......

My boss also got JRT - started her on good quality dried food (also JWB but other brands are avalible lol) she came in one day and said 'ohh i have a bag of food for you - Honey wont eat it anymore , shes decided shes a bakers girl........'
I didnt have the heart to tell her that because its full of additives.....
 
So do you guys recommend that i switch her to something else? Or just stick with Pedigree? Or just stick with muesli stuff? Thanks for you're help!
 
is the museli stuff chudleys?
if so then that is probably better then pedigree although i would be slightly concerned about the levels of protien and i think it has additives. personally i would ditch both and change to something like i and others suggested. what ever you do stick with it even if she doesn't eat it, she has to learn not to be so fussy- good luck
 
If she is happy on a wheat based food (which is the basis for Pedigree and Bakers) you could try Field and Trial (which is probably at your local feed merchants). The crunchy is higher protein than the maintenance - we find that working dogs tend to have crunchy when working and maint in the summer, those with allergies use the duck and rice, good value at under 20 quid for a 15kg sack.
