I have been reading with interest the post on Bakers dog food. I was really suprised to hear what it can do to a dog!! Ours are on this at the moment but when the bags finished thats it!!

Now what would you recommend me to feed them? One is a black lab, year old and the other is a very small JRT, 6 years old. They do have a little meat mixed in with their dry food?

Thanks

I actually don't feed dried food at all now. I got my dog from the Dogs Trust and they feed Arden Grange which I carried on with but she really didn't like unless I mixed meat or sardines in oil with them. Then did some research, lots of interesting + useful reading on H+H dog forum! I now feed Naturediet ( a moist ready to feed pack) once a day and for the other meal she has brown rice or jacket potato with raw grated carrot or broccoli with sardines or raw meat. I also get her raw bones from our butcher. Much happier healthier dog with a real appetite!

Wainwrights, Skinners, Arden Grange, Fish4Dogs are all good brands.

I feed one Wainwrights and the other a mixture of tripe, chicken wings, whatever I can find in the bargain bin :p and Skinners Duck and Rice kibble as 'sweets'/a training aid. The younger one is always fed from my hand to encourage him to do a bit of work for his food/behave :p

I would like to feed raw and they do get eggs, mince and bones regularly but they get Gain greyhound Recordbreaker. There's no VAT so economic with 6 dogs and is also 20% fresh chicken so much better than most dry foods. Quite high in protien and energy though but my dogs are very active so it suits them.

How can you justify Hills though its soo expensive for what it is. Even my vet said that. I feed raw now but when I go on holiday I feed wainwrights or gonna give skinners ago.

Hills is cheaper than Arden Grange...

I used to feed mine Arden Grange, as her breeder fed it, but we always struggled to get her to eat the full amount she needed, and we were having to supplement it with chicken and mince to encourage her to eat and to keep the weight on.
The vet advised we change to Hills Science plan for active dogs, and she eats it, and is in superb condition on that. She's a very fit Pointer.
