using Aqueous Cream (99p a pot) over the last 3 days. i simply cannot believe the difference - I brush it on with a hoof oil brush, on the inside all over (shove lots down the frog area) and outside, and they look fab.

Thanks so much to the poster who mentioned it, would never have thought to try it ;)
 
we should have a special section on here called something like "Things that do work, and things that don't", tho I suppose that'd be open for a law suit :rolleyes:

Or maybe "money saving tips" ?? Hmmmmm.

I hope the AC works as well for everyone else - Shy is barefoot, and it's been pretty dire that last couple of weeks. Roll on rain, eh.

aqueaous cream is very good for feet, and any dry skin conditions. excellent on human dry legs/dry skin and yes it is water based, but has a large quantity of grease (emmolients) in it. if you use it after a shower (humans!!) then your skin does feel lovely,(tho takes a few mins to sink in so you dont look like a cross chanel swimmer!!) next time you shower there will be a bit of greasy scrub off in the shower tray/ or a bath rim!! but cheap as chips and does a good job on feet, though not grease free despite being aqueaous! fabtastic and cheap for winter horsey hands too.
 
Boots make their own, but you can get it in any chemist. I get it from Boyes (our cheapie department store), really doesn't matter on th brand.
 
typical! i went into savers in town yesterday to get some petrolium jelly for my mares mouth and they had tubs of that cream on offer!!
*trudges off back to savers!*
 
I'll be another one trying this at the weekend as i thought yesterday that his feet were quite dry and it's easier for me to get to a chemist than a tack shop for some dressing.

When my farrier came to do mine the other day, he said just to use vaseline on dry hooves and nothing else....might try the AC though - sounds good....

Thank you for sharing, think there are lots of us suffering from this problem at the mo - never thought I would be asking for rain but we reaaaally need some soon!
 
his hooves are just looking better and better - really impressed with them today. They look totally different to the dried out old prunes they were, his heels look healthier too. The feet look quite glossy too :)

Even my hubs can see the difference, and that's saying sommit :p He suggested I buy a job lot off ebay and repackage it as "hoof cream" - make a fortune;)

You should do!

I've just used up a bottle of 'hoof health spray', which smells distinctly like watered down vinegar to me! Or maybe it's just gone off! It did nothing for the hooves, but if someone had repackaged vinegar and dyed it blue, they'll be laughing all the way to the Bank!
 
all brands the same, it seems. The cheaper the more cheerful, too. I'm sure it'll just be made by one company with a vast vat of the stuff. :)
 
I'm so glad I saw this thread sm, my farrier came today and as I thought, Darco has horrible hooves, very brittle and dry and I've been scratching my brain all day trying to think of a cost effective way to manage them whilst being time effective!! I'm gonna try tomo! :D xx
 
Oooh very interesting tip! I am really worried how my lot will cope with the French summer because F's hooves really suffered in the UK summer despite using Keratex moisturiser.

Would this be the right thing?
