Wonder if I can pick your brains please. Busta is a 9 year old Sloughi, he is fed skinners field and trial duck and rice. He looks really well on it in fact far too well! We have reduced his food as much as we can and he is still looking fat on it. He has also started raiding bins and eating anything he can get his paws on.

Can anyone recommend a good quality dry feed that is low in calories. Whilst we will pay whatever we need to, cost is a consideration.

Any ideas appreciated.

Thanks

My concern is that he is not getting all the vits and minerals he needs as he only have a handful morning and night and is only just maintaining his weight.

Or I am being neurotic?

It contains a lot of grains (eg. rice) which works well for some dogs and other makes them fat or bloated on very little it also means you need to feed more to get the rest of the good stuff.

I would try him on something grain free for a while and see if it helps. Maybe fish4dogs.

I use Barking Heads "fat dog slim" with success. Weight dropped off her fairly quickly on the weight loss dose and she is now having the maintenance amount so feels like I'm giving her a decent amount (she loves her grub :)). It has MSM and Chondroitin in too.

The other foods I tried all resulted in gradual weight gain even on much less than the recommended amount. :(

Funny you should say that as if he were a horse I would describe him as looking wormy, pot bellied.

I think I will change him over but also try adding the veg as well see if we can attack it from both sides as at the moment I really dont think he is getting enough vits and minerals.

I would say I would also up his exercise however he is really getting on a bit now and 20 mins a few times a day is more than enough.
