Can anyone recommend a good dry food for a dog with a fairly sensitive digestive system? Sprocket was originally on JWB as a puppy but after he picked up a nasty stomach bug he can't tolerate this. I have tried a couple of brands and he is currently on Skinners Field and Trial but it is really difficult to keep weight on him (even increasing his feed and supplementing with tuna/sardines etc). He is a fairly active dog (decent walk every day and he also does flyball) and certainly isn't lacking in energy but it is very hard to stop him getting too skinny.
So, any suggestions? I don't mind paying more than I am now for a good quality food, I just want something that won't upset his stomach or make him look like he is never fed!

Well H doesn't have a sensitive stomach, but he is a skinny dog. I have had him on Burns and Arden Grange, but he definitly looks the best on Fish4dogs. You can buy it from Chemist Direct for £36/12kg bag.

My mally pup did badly on JWB after a stomach problem last year and only really picked uponce off cereal altogether so we intially went for Wafcol Salmon and Potato which worked well but was expensive at £48 for 12kg so now we buy Fishmongers Salmon and Potato for £29.99 for 10kg weight goes on well and they soak well in warm water for stuffing in kongs too

The main ones I've found for hypoallergenic are Burns, Wafcol and Skinner F&T ...

rather unhelpfully for you though I switchced from Skinners to Wafcol as my dog was doing too well on the Skinners!!

Is a new website might help you look at lots of food.
Thanks, that's very helpful - although it's always good to get opinions from people who have actually tried the food.
I think grain-free is probably the way to go with him and I will look into Fish4dogs. My only concern with that is that I already use a few of their products (training treats/sea jerky/salmon mousse) so really wanted a food with a non-fishy alternative to give him a bit more variety. Either that or I have to resign myself to even more fishy kisses:rolleyes:

My dog was fed left over spaghetti and trifle as a puppy by a friend who thought it was ok to do so, and developed chronic diarroea for weeks afterwards and an allergy to gluten and dairy. The only thing that he could happily digest was our cat's dry food http://www.techni-cal.net/

I compared the ingredients of the cat version to the dog one and found little difference, so he's eaten Techni-cal dry cat food perfectly happily ever since (and is now 12) It's around £40 for the biggest bag (don't know what it weighs, but it feels like a sack of coal).

Hope that helps.

Another vote for Arden Grange. Ours has the 'light' version as he is prone to porkiness but I think they do a fish and potato one too (not that it helps you to move away from fish!).

I get it from Vet-UK for approx £35 per 15kg bag but I think the fish and potato one is a bit more.

My lab had a severe reaction to JWB...
She's been on 'The Natural Dog Food Company' ever since. Totally holistic, human grade meat and veg etc.
Although its not the cheapest a 15kg bag lasts ages as it's not full of fillers... It's run by a husband and wife, and theyre really friendly and helpful. I order online and it's delivered by Fedex the following day if ordered before 12pm.
