I would be happy with the farriery job, I've seen a lot worse.

If you are oiling, you are sealing in the dryness. A better way of getting them less dry is, amazingly, to dunk them in a bucket of water. Then put something like Kevin Bacon hoof dressing on them.

when I read the start of your post I thought his feet would be awful, was v pleasantly suprised with your pics! Like 9tails said, I would avoid any oils or greases. Dunking feet is fab (if your lad will let you!), you could also tip his water trough in his field out every couple of days so he has somewhere damp he walks through. For hoof dressing I would use naf hoof moist or aqueous cream (about £2.50 for a massive pot from a chemist), both a fab and won't lock out moisture. I would also put it on the sole and frog too as these areas will also get dried out. Should make a big difference, esp when the biotin you are feeding kicks in.

great thank you
i keep wonderning ifthe shape of his hinds are a bit too upright and will definately dunk his feet he will have no choice in the matter hehe :)
keep thinking he might be better barefoot though but not sure if he could do the driving work then

i found Effol worked wonders with my arabs feet. he had dry feet and my farrier reccomended effol put on every day. It was fab, and its also antibacterial/antifungal etc.
I used on my current horse every day too even though he had good feet, it just helps keep everything nice and moist.
Good idea re the soaking foot in water then sealing it with a good hoof grease.

i also love kevin bacon, used it on my welshie when he was losing shoes and hasnt lost one since I have been putting it on daily.
