Dry nose - some advice please

My 18 month Bull Mastiff's nose has a very dry cracked appearance to it right on the very top. The rest of his nose it fine, normal and moist.

Does anyone have any ideas why it could be like this? He is fed dry food, is of ideal weight and generally very healthy.

It's been like this for a while too, it not just happened over night.

Any advice on how to cure it would be greatly appreciated!!

Our GSD gets like this but all over her nose - we slather her in Vaseline as even if she licks it it sticks like glue!
Could be a number of different things - injury, snuffling round in bushes and allergies (as our GSD has) tend to be the main causes.

Thank you, I'll try the Vaseline to see if it makes a difference.

I don't think it's an injury cos it gradually come on but could possibly be an allergy.

Yeah does it seem to bother him? Our Shepherd gets to the point where she ends up with scabs on her nose, and we have to soften them and get them off so she can breathe properly bless her.
Like I said the vaseline they will try and lick off but some still sticks so just slather it on!
