I've recently noticed these little tiny spots coming out on my mares face, she is petty much covered in them on both sides, will give the vet a ring on Monday but just wondered if anyone has any ideas, they don't seem to bother her, theres no scabs on them, just hair loss and her skin does seem particularly dry and a bit flaky around them.

She's 6 year old perfectly healthy, lives out 24/7 with access to an open stable, has ad lib good quality hay, fed a small feed of speedibeet and hi fi lite.

Thanks.

My daughters previous horse developed something similar which ended up covering most of his face. Vet originally said strep infection and prescribed antibiotics, it improved but didn't clear up. 2nd vet said ringworm and we treated accordingly. During the ringworm treatment the hirses was involved in a RTA and because of his injuries was on antibiotics. It was during this time that his face cleared up. We are still undecided if it was a strep infection that needed a longer course of antibiotics or whether it was ringworm and the treatment cleared it up. My horse that was kept with him never showed any symptoms.

Thanks I will have the vet take a look at it, she's due for her jabs next Wednesday anyhoo so i'll get him to take a look at the same time, she lives with 1 other horse and that horse has none at all, i've inspected them both tonight and under her fur she's got quite a lot of them appearing.
