Beastie suffers from really dry skin, I just clipped ehr and realised just how bad it is.

What is the best thing to give her for dry skin? She is currently on Royal Canin Obesity Management food, can't change that and she also gets cod liver oil tablets for her joints.

I always rub a bit of aloe vera gel into B's hide when he gets bad, it really seems to help.
They say fatty oils and fish oils can help but I am sure that is the last thing you want to do right now!!!!
Someone here mentioned an oatmeal bath once?

Can I use aloe vera made for people? As I have some up the stairs.

Can you imagine Beastoie's face if I gave her an oatmeal bath?!

Yeah, I got mine from Boots, the gel though, not the cream, and as clear as possible so no colourings.
Bought it for my sunburn and it ended up going in his medicine collection

Lidl I think are selling the actual plants at the minute, too? You can just break off a leaf and rub on. Never tried that on a dog though.

Never mind Beastie, I'd be tempted to pour in some honey and scoff the lot

Ta-da!

I have suggested oatmeal bath for CaveCanem's Bodo!
My vet clinic have a dog shampoo with oatmeal in it, because oatmeal is good for the skin and helps against itching, but you could also do the au naturel method and simply mix some (as in not that much) finely ground oatmeal with water and soak your dog with it for 5 to 10 minutes before rinsing.

When one of my late bitches started getting the sort of old dogs fur with tufts that some old dogs can get, I told her to stay in a dog bed that have a hardy surface, before soaking her with fine olive oil that you are meant to cook food in. I made sure it really got down to the skin, leaved that on 5 to 10 minutes before an oatmeal bath, voila, no dry skin and fur like a dog ten years younger.

Although I like the idea about using something with aloe vera too.

Boo had reallly dry skin when he was about two (BC), I tried the expensive Sebocalm shampoos which would be ok for a day or so but no lasting effect, best combination I found was Coal tar shampoo (recommended by vet but came from boots!) and Aloe vera gel (possibly Holland and Barretts!)
