Hello - my senior TB mare has started having some patches of dry skin on her face probably due to the sun as we live in a very warm climate. Any suggestions for natural remedies or standard creams that could help with this? thanks

The difficulty with applying cream in a sunny climate is that it can trap the heat against the skin and actually cause burns. Also dry skin on a horse can indicate a parasitic or bacterial infection so it might be better to get a vet to check before doing too much. Once you've ruled out something which needs vet treatment I would be looking to diet and see if the vits / mins are balanced. Good skin comes from within rather from applying stuff to the outside.

I had a similar thing with my youngster when I first got him, he had areas of scaly, dry skin. I added linseed into his feed twice a day and haven't had a problem since - his coat looks amazing too.
