Dry skin

My pony has extremely flaky dry skin. Any recommendations on what I can use that may help him. Thanks 😁

Feed micronised linseed and a supplement containing decent levels of zinc, especially if his hooves are also prone to cracking and chipping.

Aloe vera shampoo is really good for the skin. (That's proper aloe vera, not random shampoo with aloe vera in it!). You can also give liquid aloe vera as a feed supplement. My pony had sweet itch and constantly dry skin, and aloe vera was like a miracle for him.

I am also a fan of micronised linseed, it really helped my cushing horse who had very itchy flakey skin.

Micronised linseed makes a big difference- this year my cob has had nearly no mallenders/greasy heel issues and he has very little scurf in his mane and tail so far.

I am also putting oil-based leave-in conditioner in his mane and tail, which seems to help with what little he had.

Marriages do a really keenly priced linseed supplement. Regular brushing with a clean brush is important too.

just a thought - but is it flaky all over or just along his crest? If the latter, could be lice.
