Are thermatex still the best drying rugs? Daughter’s aged pony is a sweaty hairy mud monster so needs regular baths over winter for PC lessons/clipping/my sanity. I full clipped last year which made cleaning easier as she was rugged fully but she was too cold, we haven’t found the clip/rug/mud sweet spot yet. (Currently a blanket clip which needs redoing already)

Is a thermatex still the best quick drying rug? Pony lives out due to COPD so spends little time in the stable so needs to be washed and dried in a short space of time.

I think any cooler type rug does the trick. They nearly all use the same concept of wicking moisture away, whilst providing warmth and preventing chills and ensuring breathability.

For a horse that i wanted straight back out years ago i bought a proper wicking turnout, I had the Bucas Smartex and i think Coolex ones. The Bucas in particular was brilliant. you can put it on a warm wet horse and turn out straight away.
Horseware do a wicking liner which I've had since with the aim of maximising turnout time after riding and that was also very useful.

Out of interest did you take her legs off last year? I found in the past that when I clipped their legs off I struggled to keep them warm but with them on they were fine. What rugs did you try last year to keep her warm? It should theoretically be possible to keep a clipped horse warm enough and it would solve your problems.

I have a thermatex, to be honest other rugs dry her quicker!! A regular fleece does the job as do the rambo dry rugs...the thermatex probably keeps her warmer though....

I use Thermalux rugs

I always found that at work. I’d have say 5 horses to wash, dry, brush and rug up.
We only had 2 Thermatex rugs and then a pile of thinner coolers of various varieties.
The Thermatex dries slower but kept them warmer for longer. So I think if you’re going to wash off and go for lunch for example a Thermatex is best as they will be warm and dry.
The thinner ones were better for my situation where I wanted them dried, cool and rugged up asap.
The ones in the Thermatex held me up!
