dually halters?

Perdsonally dislike the dually. Don't see how they create pressure, more slide over the horses face (and I've spent ages trying to fit it so that doesn't happen). Used one on an obnoxious large youngster and didn't really get on with it.

Personally if I needed one, I'd get a Be Nice.
 
I really liked the one I have that I used to use for my youngster, it definitely did it's job - more control and she was the one to release the pressure and I even backed her in it, as she wasn't totally happy with the bit - she needed dentist work. It did slip a bit when I rode her in it so as soon as the teeth had been done she was bitted and ridden in a bridle. Haven't had to use it in a while as her manners are much better.
 
They did help with my big horse, he wasn't naughty so much as a bit of a dope, he didn't notice when you'd stopped walking and just kept trundling on... A dually did really help, I rode him in it too, just for convenience, and it did wonders with his manners and awareness of his handler!
 
i bought one and didnt like it, i prefer the rope halter and its around 35 quid cheaper! i have a big stroppy 17hh mare and with the rope halter shes an angel with the dually it didnt make any difference at all !

Well with my boy I dont have trouble stopping him...more moving forwards. He can decide he doesnt want to go somewhere and plant his feet.

I wondered if a halter *Dually or Be Nice* would help me get him going forwards....as in... as soon as he takes a step in the right direction I relax the pressure.

Any suggestions?
 
They do a job, have had one for about 10 years. Sort of thing you buy, use, lend, use, and keeps coming in handy and useful to have about.

Its not magic though, it just enables you to make it clear to the horse that when you say thats not good behaviour thats what you mean. There are alternatives but they are all only as good as the way you use them!!!
 
Has made a big difference with my big girl, I have never ridden in it though just use it for leading. Had really problems with her manners being led to the field, or should I say her dragging me to the field, used to use a stallion chain on her especially when in season she got so bad. However after a week working with the dually she now walks quietly beside me with loose rein, backs up for the gate and calmly walks through.

We had this with one of ours, used to plant for England when being led! I have used both the dually and a parelli type halter and both worked equally well. TBH in this case you could get the same result with an ordinary headcollar! All you need to do is make him take tiny steps by off balancing him side to side, immediately he steps to balance himself take any pressure of him - hope that makes sense, if not Im sure someone else will be able to describe it better! I love my dually but find that in some situations, or with certain of our ponies, the rope halter is more effective. I also find the pressure easier to control by 'feel' than the dually and that I am faster to respond to the release.
 
i ride my horse in a dually and love it - he hates the bit - he goes wonderfully, halts when asked, does his work in the school perfectly - i am so lucky my instructor is all for it and is teaching me in it - one happy horse and owner - brilliantxxxx
 
I like them. All of ours have them, as they are just used as normal headcollars 99% of the time, but have the extra control right there if you suddenly find you are being dragged off into the sunset :D
