I'm looking into getting a dually for our mini shetland. Has anyone used one on a mini - would they recommend it? If not, has anyone used an alternative that they would?

Photo of his very kissable nose to thank you in advance for any advice.20200616_204234.jpg

I would just buy some yacht rope and make a richard maxwell style halter. I've made a couple from pictures (when I couldn't find my original in the tack room) and they are easy to make ?

My neighbour has Shettys and used a dually on her late cut gelding. He's probably just tall enough to be a standard though (I don't know his official height).

Thank you - ours isn't teeny tiny so I'm hoping that it won't be too big.

Great suggestion, I just don't quite trust my handy skills enough to do a really good job of it. I've never been good at making things with my hands so I think I'd just end up with a sub-par headcollar which would annoy everyone.

My minis have the purple Duallys. They look a little 'busy' on their tiny faces but fit well and do the job!

Great to get another endorsement from a shetland owner. It was the fit I was slightly concerned about, and whether it would be as effective when the angle changes. (Ie. handler has hands higher than their head due to height difference, when with a large horse you're below them). He's mostly wonderful, but I find that normal headcollars tend to twist round on him if he's excited and wanting to pull. It doesn't take long to calm him down and get him leading politely again, but I'd rather not worry about the headcollar in that moment.

I just really wish the mini size wasn't in purple....
