Dubarry boots - recommend me a cheaper alternative please

Ariat do a lovely version I think. Don't know the exact name, think they were around £70? Our grooms daughter has a pair and she says they're really comfy.

Just Toggs Huntsville - around 90 pounds. Look very similiar to Dubarrys.
the comfiest thing without a doubt I have ever worn (although a pain in the backside to break in!!) Fab to ride in and nice enough to wear elsewhere.
I will choose these over uggs to wear to 3 hour lectures sometimes!!

I've got the Dublin River Boots (about £95) for Christmas, and so far so good! Have spent long cold days in them picking up on shoots with the dogs in deep snow, comfortable for walks, pootling around the yard, and when I scrape the mud off them, smart enough with jeans for the pub!

The Dublin Riverboots look good but the lining can go which makes them lose their waterproofing but were comfy.

I love my Ariats, pure quality.

I have heard good things about the toggi ones.

I was about to buy some dublin river boots for the yard but was advised by sales assistant at my local store that they had a lot returned ,and were now only recommending them as fashion boots .

Cabotswood boots are good. Got a pair just before christmas and they're comfy, good looking, and durable. More expensive than Dublin, but less than Dubarry, and my oh couldnt tell the difference (but he was paying for them!).

Wouldn't buy the dublin river boots, had mine about a month and the lining has already gone!! Rubbish!! Dubarrys well worth spending extra money x

You get what you pay for in my experience. Bought daughter an alternative brand, which were not that cheap and cheerful and they collapsed within about 6 months. Bought a pair of Dubarry's on sale in our local tack shop, 179.00, as a replacement and some two and a half years on they are well, not like new, as worn in, but still absolutely solid. She wears them every day to take dogs long walks in and for general wearing. Swears by them. Can't say what the company is like if things go wrong as they haven't. So if you can stretch to it and you want Dubarry's and not a similar substitute, then I would say take a deep breath and go for it. Look for offers on the more unfashionable colours and last years styles, that sort of thing.

I have Toggi Canyon's. They have held up nice, but I haven't exactly gone sloshing through water or mud with them...I save my muck boots for those conditions.

I hate the boots that look like they are trying to be dubarry. I hated my dubes. the stitching went, then they leaked then the sole fell off, they were sent back, customer service was awful, very unhelpful, boots came back with a new sole which promptly fell off so I gave up and bought tuffa suffolks which I loved but didnt like riding in so have got ariat grasmeres too now and I am in boot heaven, I adore them, by far my favs

Thanks for all the replies so far! The dilema is that she is only 14 (nearly 15) and i am not totally convinced the feet won't have a final growth spurt if i invest in Dubarrys!!

We are off on a skiing holiday soon and rather than pay for ski boots that she will wear for a week and then leave in the cupboard for a year, i thought i'd get Dubarry type boots that she can also wear to walk the dogs, go beating and come to the yard in (occassionally).

I always take my Dubarry's when we ski (after a good scrub!) and they are fab for this and every other occassion i can think off.

I have a pair of toggi things. They cost £60 and surprisingly are pretty amazing! People are always complaining to me about how there feet are getting wet in other boots or zips breaking etc but my cheap pair are amazing!

Yep. I have a pair, they are still pristine currently (D Rivers and Dubarrys are work boots and showing no signs of dying just yet) and just used for going shopping etc. Canadian parking lots at this time of year are a MESS of snow, ice and slush = absolute death to suede.

Very comfortable, good grip, and haven't stained at all when we've been wading through snow drifts at the beach, I am forever being stopped in the Mall by total strangers asking where I got my 'lovely' boots. The one thing I don't like about them is the stupid laces, I've just pulled them out, but then I think the laces on all of these are pointless and irritating, mostly I chop them off or yank them off.

Just a word about Dublin Rivers, mine have been worn daily and contrary to so many reports haven't leaked, split or anything else, they have been warm (in -25C) and I wouldn't hesitate to get another pair even though it is not so easy to get them here. Love them.

My favourite boots are actually the Cavalry Country boots, but frustratingly, and for some bizarre reason I can't fathom they no longer make size 5! My last pair lasted 5 years of almost daily use, much less 'clunky' than DR's, Dubarrys, Country Eventers etc I adored them and am absolutely furious I can't get more to fit me.

I used this site for looking at options as I too was looking at dubarry ones but couldn't bear to pay that much... I went to try them on today but as I have wide calves the standard ones just didn't fit and they only did the extra wide ones only came in the walnut brown which wasn't so keen on. Tried the Kanyon ones instead and I have to say I loved them!!! Bought them and worn this afternoon to walk the dog in awful weather. So comfy and warm and really pleased with my purchase especially as they were £139 instead of £299!!! Bonus!! Feel excellent quality, maybe even more so than the Dubarry!!!

I have toggi Quebec boots for leisure wear (school run etc), but don't ride in them as they don't have the correct soles. For riding I have the just togs brookville boots which I am really pleased with as well, and they look smarter than my battered jod boots and half chaps for lessons etc.

I bought Ariat Windermere (the green ones) a couple of months ago and now live in them. Best £100 (special offer) I've spent in a long time. I wanted the brown Windermere as they looked nicer on the shelf but once the sage green has darkened they're actually a much nicer colour.
