lots of people at my yard have them and love them, but im not so sure i love the price tag. I'm not sure wether they would be worth it. can you ride in them? im not sure wether to get them or one of the cheaper alternatives such as the dublin river boots, are they as good?

i had a pair and they lasted ages but having said that looked after well as so expensive~~~liked them but have not bought another pair as so overpriced. my husband had a pair too and used them as wellies!!!!! used to fork muck heap up in them so they didnt last 5 minutes!!!!! have got him a pair of cheap dunlop wellies~~~he is moaning his feet are cold!!!!!!

Thanks- thats very helpful. i certainly would be looking after them since there so expensive, but i think they will probably jusy have to be on my long list of things i want.

well i certainly dont think i will get them if i cant ride in them as i dont really think i can spend that sort of money and still have to have a pair of non-competition riding boots

I absolutely love mine. I don't ride in them because I am weird about that and only ride in ariats, but mine keep my feet so warm, are so comfy and lovely - I'd sleep in them if I thought I could get away with it!

I don't think you're supposed to ride in dubarrys as they don't have much of a heel.

I ride in mine though because I'm too lazy to change into riding boots (and because it's been so cold lately!). there's a seam right on the inside though so it's not v good for the boots.

I've had mine about 15 months and I think they're leaking. I wander around in the mud and muck and don't really look after them very well though, so I can hardly say I'm surprised.

A friend of mine reckons you can send them back to DB and they'll sort it out for you for v little money (£10 or something) but i'm not convinced.

As for alternatives, two of my friends have dublin rivers and in both of them the lining has detatched itself from the boot.

I wouldn't reccomend them for riding, friend of mine suffered a shattered ankle when her horse slipped and fell on the road, IMO they do not offer enough support for riding use.

YIKES! I only wear mine riding on the school but might rethink even that now....

sp it might be worth considering spending a bit more for a better boot, but im still not convinced if you cant ride in them

thanks everyone you've all been so helpful- i might look into the ariat ones, i have always like ariats and i have got a pair of there devon

paddock boots which i love

My first pair of Dubarrys were absolutely worth the money. I bought them, crikey must be about 7 or 8 years ago, and they are still going strong. Bought a new pair last year (March 2010) and the whole of the leather on the top where your toes breakover, has split! Split half the way across the top of the foot part. My Dubarrys have a hard life, granted, however the old ones have survived and still look fab if a bit well-worn, the new ones are heading for the bucket.

I will never buy another pair of Dubarry's and I'd never recommend them for this reason.

To me? Yes, they're worth it, I look after mine well, they are cleaned regularly and I never muck out or ride in them. My feet are always warm and dry and they are hardly ever off my feet, I wear them for work and college and for down at the yard and I love them, IMO they look a lot better than the cheaper copies
Perhaps these would be better than the Galways for you if you want to ride in them :)

not designed for riding or mucking out. Urine etc will destroy the leather very fast.

Intouch they are comfortable the pair you tried on must not have fitted.

they should replace or refund not expect you to pay to get faulty good rectified!

I love my Dubarry's, but I was gifted them by a very kind friend - I didnt buy them. I find mine so comfy and have lived in them for the last 3 weeks with all this snow. They've never leaked and I have ridden in them, they are so comfy to ride in but I try not to as the leather rubbing on the inside leg material seems to discolour it a bit. I dont know if Id spend that much to buy them myself but I do really love them!

I love my dubarrys too :)

I have the clares, which you can ride in - and for someone who said that suffered a shattered ankle, that is awful, but could have happened in any boots. If person was wearing joddy boots and chaps, same thing would have happened imo.

They are very useful, being waterproof, meaning they look smart when I walk xc courses etc. and I have worn them into town (well, imagine a country type town) loads of times:)

Yes - (1) but like everyone says only if you look after them and don't ride, etc in them.

Yes - (2) you feet are a very important asset and worth looking after!! Therefore, it is worth having good quality boots, I think if you buy a good quality pair of boots/wellies and good quality boots to ride in, they will
a) last twice as long, so cost effective if you are going to be riding for a few years.
b) it is very bad for your feet to consistently wear the same boots/shoes - as we tend to do in winter, so swopping between the two pairs will make your feet last longer!!!

Trust me, you would do it for your horse, so look after your feet as well!!

was asking shopkeeper what she thought compared to ariat grasmeres -she said its like being in a rolls royce and then going to a mini ;)

Bought a pair a couple of years ago. Loved them but was disappointed when they started to leak after less than a year but I returned them to Dubarry and they exchanged them by return for a brand new pair. The next pair lasted almost as long then the sole started to come off. I returned them once again and Dubarry repaired them. Although the boots are worn couple of times a week and well cared for I am disappointed to say the sole is starting to come off again. I cant fault their customer service but given the price of the boots I am not sure I would buy another pair

i recently got some similar boots, someone at my yard said that when they bought some dubarrys the guy in the shop said something in the stable (cant remember) turns them a really dark brown colour, so unless you dont mind that i wouldn't use them for the yard often. mine are a differant make but they look too wide to ride in without the danger of them being too wide for the stirrup?

I wouldn't spend that much money on them the newer ones are apparently made of diffrent leather so don't wear aswell as the old ones. I have a pair of shires boots that were a fraction of the price and have been used everyday for the past year and are still comfy and waterproof so well worth the money. They were around £60 at the time so cheaper than most others.

They fitted, but I'm used to Muck Boot Tynes, so no comparison.

Plus, I worked in a Saddlers that sold them, and we got so many returned that there's no way I'd have spent that money - even with staff discount!

What is the best way to look after Dubarrys? I recently bought a pair and want them to last as long as possible! I bought some Ariat Grasmeres a year and a half ago and they have got cracked but dont leak....yet! I didn't look after them very well though, left them caked in mud and lived in the for the past 18months as so comfy and warm!

I have some dubarrys but honestly can say my old ariat grasmeres were way more comfortable and much harder wearing. I would always go for ariat over dubarry. I wear mine round the yard, hack out in them and even up the pub. However I don't have a muddy yard!

I dread to think of the profit Dubarry are making off their name now, by using cheaper materials but sticking to the high pricetag.

Hunter did the same, their wellies are rubbish now - they used to be brilliant.
