Nick on Arko got 2nd in yesterday's power and speed and Rob whitaker was =2nd in the 6 bar earlier today.

If on our good/bad streak for the nations cup we should do bad at this show

It's a bit of a non-event anyway this NC as all the first choices are out of it as they will be at the Euro's next week.

Ireland don't really count either...they just compete as hosts and can't gain points.

Germany are running away with the overall thing and USA making a late charge off the bottom. So in effect the worst that is likely to happen today is GB and Switzerland swap 2nd and 3rd places in the overall standings. We're safe for another year anyway

lol, did wonder why Ireland were jumping. Is it usually only 8 countries then?
who went into the super legue instead of Ireland last year?

I don't really understand how it works? Will Ireland go back in nexy year and the courty that finsh last swap with Ireland?

Yes, there are usually only 8 teams unless the hosts are not in the Superleague.

I believe Belgium replaced Ireland last year. Whoever finishes bottom of the Superleague this year will be relegated and whoever tops the 'ordinary' Nations Cup points table will be promoted to replace them.

I don't know what the current standings are in the ordinary league...

ETS: Just checked and Ireland are currently top of the FEI NC on 69pts followed by Denmark on 60pts and Italy on 55pts so looking like Ireland may be back in the top flight next year

Yes they can and do...but don't score points. It's usually used as a means of getting less experienced horse/rider combinations team experience.

If anyone else was watching (Irish coverage) - what the hell was up with Lacroix (Robert Whittaker's horse)?!

For those who didn't see it, in round one he jumped clear until the last fence a big oxer on a right hand turn. Stopped and refused to make the turn, reared/span and napped until eliminated. Second round had 4 down prior to the turn then had a repeat performance.

The commentators couldn't see a cause for it

Weirdest thing Ive ever seen that! Rob Whit didnt do anything wrong at all, just went to make the turn and the horse said no way. Reared, spun, went backwards, but would not turn at all to that fence.

I think it was about half way down the arena over on the right hand side, maybe the horse was napping to the gate as he would have been jumping towards it, then turning right handed away from it, but the gate was a good bit away.

Then the second round it did the very same thing, Robert was ready this time, gave him a slap behind, still no joy, tried everything, horse said no way, did the very same thing, rearing etc. It was very odd!

Ireland did well today, that River Foyle is a nice prospect for the future me thinks. We had better be back up with the big guns next year, hope this year was a lesson for them to sort out the infighting and get on with the more important matter of jumping for ones country at the highest level possible.
