After much umming and arghing we decided to go to Duckhurst today for their BSJA Amateur Show. The extra 45 minutes each way to Sands Farm just putting us off in the end

Anyway, entered Trike for the 1m Am and decided the time was right for Bo to step back up to the higher levels today after going so well two weeks ago.

Walked the course for the 1m Am and thought it was well up to height, but Trike was a superstar last time out and so was reasonably confident. We went towards the end and although he had felt a little lethargic in the warm up he set off in the right frame of mind. Pinged the first and over the second i thought he was going to come down with snow on his ears he went to so high

Continued round and ended up with a very satisfactory clear

We were drawn fourth to go in the JO and i knew it would be quick ! The fences went up and in we went. We set off in a good rhythm but the tight, twisty turns soon took their toll, and although Trikey was jumping his heart out the turns really didn't suit him. We were going well until the penultimate fence...a tight turn back to a decent sized oxer...and it just didn't come off. We never got going off the turn and he quite rightly decided to stop and take a second go at that one. Jumped it fine second time and just finished on the four faults so pretty happy and can't really blame the horse for that one

The 1.05m in comparison to the 1m Am walked reasonably small. It was big enough but nothing to worry Bo that i could see. We went near the end again and jumped quite possibly the best round we have ever jumped together. A really good forward rhythm and never felt like touching a fence at any point

So, into the JO again, and this time only 7 in it (14 in the 1m !). We were drawn 4th again...an omen if ever there was one...and so off we set. I planned to give it a pretty good shot although i knew i wouldn't be able to make one daft turn that at least one of the others would / had

Got a great shot over the first and turned back tightly to the second which he pinged, then the tight turn back on the right rein...a turn that has caused us many problems over the past 2 years or so...and today was no different
frown.gif
He threw his little tantrum which cost us about 4 or 5 seconds, but then gave in and we continued on our way. Popped the third and then took a flier to the fourth..a long gallop to a square oxer which he flew
grin.gif
Turned as tight as we could round to the last..a double of upright to oxer...but unfortunately he just flattened over the first part and rolled the pole, so four faults again
frown.gif
We ended up as the slowest four faulter and hence 7th...unfortunately they only paid six places though....oh well

The last class for us was the 1.10m Am Qualifier...the one i was really after
tongue.gif
The course again walked well. This would be our first 1.10m indoors this winter so i was wary of what we might meet, but it seemed okay. We went in fifth, and again set off really well. The rhythm was there as was the control...despite lighting him up in the previous class
blush.gif
We were flying as we approached the penultimate fence...a double of oxer to upright....and got a great shot going in, but unfortunately he just breathed on the second element and it fell. Gutted....as we couldn't qualify on 4 faults and he sooo didn't deserve that pole. On a positive note though, he was happy and really up for it again...and over bigger fences too
smile.gif
He'll have his day again as will Trike and it was a pleasant, if perhaps slightly frustrating day in the end

Thanks for reading...

Well it sounds like a very successful day to me! Well done.

Did they still have loads of straw down at the front of the warm-up? My horse thought that was a horse sinking swamp when I took him there in the week.

Thanks

It was 'average' busy I would say...about 30 to 35 in the 1m, 25'ish in the 1.05m and about 15 to 20 in the 1.10m. No photo's i'm afraid as no photographer there this time

Was the 1.10m the last class? I keep meaning to go and watch but end up running out of time

Bit hit and miss with the photographer now really, they used to have someone who videod it all every show which was wicked but that was years back!

Well done!

Sounds like it was worthwhile going
grin.gif
Bo sounds like he's getting really into the swing of things again
grin.gif
Fingers crossed this is the start of a fantastic year

LOL! I hope you're right...but we always seem to go well in the spring for some reason...it's summer that's snookered us for the last two years

There was a 1.20m to follow btw...not sure how many were staying for it though
