Due to a lack of time. What does it mean?

I see advert after advert with 'due to a lack of time.....' and I really wonder what this phrase means.

Does it mean; My work / family commitments have increased in the x number of years since I bought my horse, and it would be better if he / she went to a good home. I can buy another in a few years when my life settles down a bit.

Or; I bought a horse and had no idea how time consuming looking after him / her properly would be.

Or; I used to ride at the local rs when I was a kid and so when I had a few bob I bought myself a horse, without actually considering that I had work/ kids / home / partner / parents who take up most of my time.

Or; I thought it would be cool to tell everyone I owned a horse, but now I'm bored with it.

Or; turns out you can't just leave a horse in a field all year, you actually have to go and see them. BTW, what's a farrier?

Or it could mean 'horse scares me witless and is a bl**dy nutter unless it is ridden for two hours everyday, which I haven't got time to do!'
 
You ask! If you're looking at an advert and it says 'due to lack of time' just ask. I sold my horse and my advert said 'due to lack of time' the person that bought her asked and I told her....working full time and having a high maintenance horse wasnt working for either of us, so I found someone who did have more time to put in to her! Simples!! :D:D:D
 
Knowing some people, it can mean;

"I've discovered the opposite sex, and seeing to the nag is too much eyelash batting time wasted"

"I didn't know you had to actually SEE TO the horse - can I not just put it in the field to look pretty?"

"What, you have to muck out? Feed? EVERY DAY?"

"Well, I haven't got the ability to ride that one, so I bought another, and a young one just in case, and now somehow haven't got the time for them all!"

(I think I've met one of each!) BUT...
sometimes circumstances change, and due to divorce/money/having to increase work hours/children/relatives/illness etc etc people genuinely do find themselves unable to commit the time their horse needs.

lol , agree, any of the above. I know circumstances can change, and suddenly time is short. Like the kid off to uni, reason for sale, just no time and the wrong circumstance for many :)

My fave was an ad I saw of a member, 'for sale as giving up'...then pics of the new horse appeared, which made me giggle. Id thought giving up riding, turns out was giving up on the horse :lol: (not saying anyone shouldnt sell a horse if they want, just made me laugh)

I remember a lot of my friends as we became teens suddenly had no time for horses as they had discovered boys ::D
 
A friend of mine sold her horse due to lack of time.
Her mother became seriously ill and needed a carer full-time; so it could be any reason.
I would ask the seller, but if it is personal they may not be so happy to say.
 
Reasons for "lack of time" could be genuine: eg illness in family/relative needing care, job changes etc. Or it could just be that they have other things they'd rather do because they've lost interest. :(
 
I'm currently trying to find a sharer due to lack if time. In my case, though he's kept at home and looked after, trying to find time to work him with 2 young kids and an OH who works insane hours is making it difficult. Not interested in selling him just want someone who is horseless to have some fun with him!
 
Maybe it's an absolute git to catch and they genuinely don't have time to spend three hours a day chasing the bloody thing round the field throwing headcollars at it.
 
I would say that it was pretty obvious what "lack of time" should mean - we all know how time consuming they can be and if you have a young family/full time job/long distance commuting etc it can be very difficult.
 
Personally I don't like it when people say 'lack of time'. I can understand with an illness or something like that, but no matter what I could just never, EVER give my boy up. He comes before everything and I would never get rid of him just because I'm getting short on time. Surely you MAKE time if you're a loving horse owner?
 
You also forgot lack of time = my buying/breeding fetish has gotten out of control I now have twelvety horses and need to get rid. This one is the lame-est, most useless, one I like least so I'm gonna try to find some sucker to unload it on.
 
Umm I have one for sale from work which really is due to lack of time as we have som many others and she just gets left till last all the time, She is going to be wasted as I have mine plus work ones to ride. However she is getting ridden at the moment and going well I just cant see how Im going to do them all through winter!
 
My girl was sold as due to lack of time circumstances. The daughter was going to university and they already had two others including mine but they were much bigger and probably quieter hahq. So the mum had to sell the little 14.2hh mare since she had no other choice cus the pony wouldn't get it's full potential.( still with me 7 years later:D ). Although I didn't go to UNI this year because I couldn't leave/loan and definaty couldnt sell my girl. So I'd much rather go without than her.
