I say dumb.. maybe I'm the dumb one for letting him in the feed room!! But OH has been putting the blocks out of reach on top of a cupboard but it appears one of the rats had knocked it onto the floor!!

I was mixing feeds and heard him trying to crunch somthing, I shouted at him and fortunately he dropped it and had only eaten a small corner off it!
So we mixed up some really salty water and made him drink it.. but Will obviously has the constitution of an ox and we had to feed him straight salt in the end to make him sick... it was a bit blue so he had eaten some of it, but 3 barfs later and it was just bile so obviously he hadn't had too much!!

He's been to the vets and apparently its quite a mild bait... (maybe thats why we have so many damned rats

!! So he has a course of Vit K injections just to be on the safe side!!

So vibes for will please!! Poor dog is now going to be convinced that any water or food we give him is going to make him sick!!!

Poor dog. We had one that got rat poison from somewhere and it was touch and go for a while but she made a full recovery. Hope yours will too

Make sure you put the poison in a proper rat bait box in future, you can never be too careful with that stuff, they're well worth the few quid they cost for peace of mind. If you can't get one, use a drainpipe that dog can't get at or into.
Hope he's alright, at least you did the right thing by getting him to be sick but it does give you a fright, I know, I've been there!

Minnie got hold of some down the allotments years ago, i was livid with the council they just had it loose around the rat holes!! but she had her vit K injections, felt sorry for herself for about two days then completely forgot about it!

it was scary at the time she had blue sick too, thats the only reason i figured out what was going on, so thank god they dod dye it.
dont worry about him not wanting any food or water, he will forget pretty quickly and be scoffing everything in sight in no time.
Get well soon xxxxx

A scientific study showed, that a dog after eating a food prepared with something, harmless, but still capable of making them sick, generally only needed 1 to 3 days before he/she was quite happy to eat the same sort of food again. Amongst the cats, in other hand, some where still suspicious after a month...

Get well wishes from Sweden.

O dear! Get an electronic rat zapper, you can get electronic pest controllers that run off the battery or mains. They're brilliant as they keep the pests out permanently and they don't affect dogs.

Apparently rat poison is losing its effectiveness for a number of reasons, one of which is a lot of horse feed contains vit K!

Was making the dog sick the correct thing to do? Just asking, 'cos you shouldn't do that with humans should you? or should you?

Hope your dog is ok, Chimo ate Rat poison on Christmas day... great timing! she came in from my parents garden with something in her mouth and i got her to drop it only to find a blue soggy mess, tried to make her sick with salt and she would not be, so off to the vets at 10:30pm, she tired everything to make her sick, some sort of drops in they eye, soda crystals, nothing would make her sick! vet was sure she would be ok (she is a big dog) but they did not keep any vit K as aparently they dont use that kind of rat poison warfarin any more as the rats get resistant to it so the rat man my parents had was really bad using wrong stuff and where the dog could get to it, Chimo was fine in the end, had to keep checking her during the night and went back for a check up on Boxing day, she still loved the vet!
