I used to do this all the time with a mare I had a long time ago who got strong on the lunge and now I cant remember how! (Def getting old!!) Basically I want to lunge off the bit rather than using a cavesson. I remember the lunge line used to go over the head and clip onto the bit but cant remember which side/exactly how it went... Have racked my brains, can anyone remind me?

Take the clip end of the lunge line, put it through the nearside bit ring, bringing it towards you, put it up over the head and clip on to the bit the other side.
This is for lunging on the left rein. Reverse, obviously, for the right rein.

Thanks! I have been wracking my brains for hours. I went to lunge my new horse and was going to do this (as she is a bit of a madam on the lunge) and just stood there looking at her and couldnt remember what to do!!

Surely that would wrap the line around the bit ring though

I do it exactly the same but when passing the clip through the first bit ring, it goes towards the horse's head then over it's poll.
Or am I being mad??!

No, is probably me being mad. Cannot visualise it for the life of me now. But I was sure you had to put it up through and over ......
