I was sad to learn of a horse fatality at this BSJA event.I did not attend this year due to the wet weather and read the news in the Dumfries and galloway standard 10/8/2011.it reported that the horse was badly injured at at one of the jumps and was put down by a vet..As this accident took place in the afternoon would it of been a case of the course being "Too slippery" for the showjumping to conitnue!

We witnessed this unfortunate accident as we were standing waiting for the parade. And thats what it was, an unfortunate accident. The rain had not started, the day was dry as was the day before. The horse did not clear the first part of the double and crashed through it. Thats when its leg broke. The screens were round the horse within a short space of time and the vet on call was there as soon as he could be. The horse showed no distress before the screens were round and someone was holding the leg up. The other competitors cleared the warming up ring and the animal was moved out of the main ring still with walking screens round it after it was euthanised.
Sad end to a good day.
