I am looking to change my horse onto a dust free bedding as he has developed a cough and is currently on straw :( So I'm hoping you guys can recommend me some! There seem to be lots of different companies around, obviously there's things like shavings and paper but also wood pellets, hemp, elephant grass etc (none of which I have any experience with!) So please could you tell me what they're like, how absorbent, value for money etc.

Thankyou! :)

Its a nightmare when they cough, I have been battling this for a few months now.

I was on shavings, but at the moment I am trying shredded paper which I use on rubber matting. Also switched her to haylage.

I bought them off Ebay and am very pleased with them.. I also get my mum to shred paper which I use to top up.

Katie_Connie can I ask, is your mare on ventipulmin long-term? My vet has given me a tub for ten days and already it has made a big difference though I am hoping he won't have to be on it long term as I haven't recieved the bill yet!

Bed-down Excel, shavings with straw. No you don't your horse on ventapulim long term, one thing vets wont allow it, also very expensive. My mare is on Respirator 2 scoops a day as my hay which I'm running out of and it's the end of winter is a little dusty, but do water it well before she gets any. And touch wood and everything else she has rarely coughed this winter, which is a first for a long time. Try it.:):)

Yes, forgot to mention... very well soaked hay... and try to give him as much turn-out as possible as in my experience they cough a lot less when they're out, rather than in :)
