Dustbuster rugs, keeping plaits in?

I have a mare who rubs plaits when left in overnight. She also rubs her mane at times when there are no plaits in it. I have a hood for her but when it is warm I do feel sorry to bundle her up in it. I thought of trying a Dustbuster as it polishes the coat, always helpful, and sits high up behind the ears, but would it be tight enough and high enough to protect plaits?

Or most plaits if I was prepared to sacrifice the top couple or do in the morning? She can get over excited when plaited and 4 a.m. is not the time to be battling her in preparation for a 6 a.m departure!

Any help gratefully received, thanks

i know someone who used to plait the night before and then put a stocking (or maybe a pair of tights, or maybe only one leg of a pair!!!) along the mane over the plaits. She then put another rubber bands over each 'stocking' covered plait to hold it in place.

Would that do the job?

Sadly no it doesn't as while it keeps bedding out the plaits are way too easily rubbed at even with that done.

I use one over 'bunches' in preparation for early morning plaiting. The neck stays up well and is very long, but sometimes it will have slipped/ twisted a bit. But, I turn my horse out overnight before a show in it ('cos she's sooooo filthy in the stable), so maybe it would be ok with a bit less moving around?

That sounds interesting, and also with hay in a net so that the neck wasn't constantly stretched down, that would be of some use in keeping the neck where it should be.

Thanks
