So for a long time now I've been wanting to get back into riding regularly, and not having my own horse needed to find a stables to ride at.

Having been almost moving to York and Newbury (for hubbys job) we have now settled, for the time being, in Shepperton.

Found a riding stables 10 mins drive from me and have booked my first assessment lesson next Wednesday! I'm nervous! Never really been 'assessed' before! And also been told that a body protector will be provided for me to wear! I've never ridden in or even tried a BP on before so that should be interesting! especially if its shaped to someone else! eek!

I'm sure there are a million things that I have forgotten that I need to do when riding... Anyone got any obvious tips for me whilst being watched!? Remembered last night about the correct diagonals... I pick these up without trying but now I'm panicking.. (in a good and excited way!)

Im so looking forward to riding regularly again!

Hi Polly, I came back into riding after a 20 year break and started having lessons to keep my teenage daughter company at local RS. I was also terrified - and everything I thought I knew was very out of date. I had so many bad habits (still do !). But I loved it and even after daughter decided riding wasn't her thing I continued with the lessons and bought my lovely cob 2 years ago.

Just relax and enjoy! Oh and heels down, elbows in...haha :)

Let us know how you get on xx

Haha thanks LIZ66! Heels down elbows in! Arggh!

I also aim to have my own horse in the next few years and am going to use this all as practise!

I'll let you know how I get on! :-)

Just dont worry about it and have fun :-) I find getting someone to film me helps.... I like to see where im going wrong rather than the instructer telling me and it sticks in my head better (plus I dont believe her half the time, I cant KEEP doing it wrong, so she must be lying haha).

Laugh at yourself when it all goes wrong and you end up bobbling around like a mentalist... thats what i do. Theres always something you stress about - Ive been riding for like 18 years and still cant canter on the correct leg. Its on my Bucket list ... teehee

Haha I think videos of myself is a good idea! I'm another who wouldn't believe I was doing it wrong ALL the time, even though I probably will be!! :-)

Thanks for the encouragement all! Hope I don't make a fool of myself trying to put the BP on.. Have no idea how to do it' hopefully it's a simple one with a zip!

Want to be able to jump again! Ah the days of being 7 years old and flying over jumps with no stirrups or reins! ... One day! X
