due to my work commitments my horse has had a year off and today we dusted off the saddle again... i learnt the following,

Check first on your first hack out that it s not looking like the last good day for harvest this year.
Check also that recent olympic success does nt flood the local lanes with Beijing hopefulls.
Check also that no one has organised an endurance ride on planned route.
Remember that due to weight gain and the horses tendancy to jog on first few outings you might need to invest in a stronger bra.

Oh believe me, I understand, especially about the bra, sports bras all the way, and mine are not that big at all. Talk about bad luck, how did you get on?? Hope you managed to stay on board and got to enjoy it inbetween all the upsets. xx

Once i got into the swing of it (pardon the pun) it was fantastic.
Out the gate... straight into the endurance ride... to be fair they were really nice to me but my horse got excited about that and didn t settle at all.
Past a few combines and tractors... they were reallly good for me too but horsey wasn t keen.. then off to Normans for a carrot (lovely old couple a few doors down)
Then overtaken by a couple of cyclists.
A few years ago it would have terrified me but other than a few snorts and jumps he was fine. He completely sweated head toe and we only went a mile and a half at the most.
The loveliest bit was turning him out again.. up until last year he had to stand on his own because he was bad for biting other horses. We threw him out with five clydesdales and although he is top dog ..he didn t dare bite them. Turning him out and watching him gallop off to his mates was incredible. They all gathered round to have a sniff and get the gossip! Bliss!
