Not too sure how else to explain other than thread title, my mare has a beautiful shiny coat but my god does it pick up dust and hold on to it! Mostly if she has got herself caked in mud in the field I find it so hard to brush away the dust after the mud is removed and being dark bay doesn't help matters.

Any ideas? I tend to brush with a plastic or rubber curry comb, then a hardish bristled brush, then a soft bristled brush.

Not really life or death, but it is really irritating me now as she looks so nice when she is shiny and clean!! :p

Use a cloth to go over her after you've got rid of any mud. Microfibre ones from the supermarket are cheap and work well.
Also hot clothing works wonders!

Just wanted to say that I know how you feel. No matter how carefully I bath her, my dark dun seems to attract dust in seconds. Most annoying when showing.

It is so frustrating!! I don't like bathing loads so I will just have to groom and hot cloth and see how we go!

Hot clothing with a small splash of oil lifts out the dust. Finish off with a real sheepskin mitt. Coat looks as though you've polished a mirror. It's a bit of a cheat as its so quick.
