If you use it on the biggest hole in the middle, would it have the effect of a normal snaffle?

Would a flexi jointed kind of one be a good idea for my mare thats not too strong, but needs a bit of extra stopping, out hunting and such...?

Thanks alot!

Biggest hole, yes similar effect to a snaffle, somewhere between a hanging cheek and a loose ring, gives you a fairly indirect contact. They are good for control on some horses, though you'd probably need to put it on the middle ring to be more effective when hunting etc.

if u use the snaffle ring it will still give a small amount of poll pressure. the lower down the rings, the more poll pressure.

i use one on my pony. hve tried others, but its the only thing that controls him. normal hacking he is fine on snaffle ring, fast hacks or this time of year (for some odd reason) i need extra brakes so use the first small ring.

It would have a little more poll pressure than an ordinary loose ring snaffle, also it would hold the bit up in her mouth a bit more. I'd use the same type of mouthpiece as your normal snaffle. At least with a Dutch Gag, if you are finding it hard to stop, you can always put it down a ring.
