The vet came to see my horse today. I have never known his definite age so he said as he was from Holland that he might have a microchip. He did! It said NLD, countrycode: 528 and then a really long number. Does anyone know the phone number or website which will be able to identify my horse from the number and let me know his real age and Dutch name (I positive he wasn't called Mark in Holland LOL!) I'm quite excited about this as I've always wanted to know more about what he did in Holland!! Thanks!

He probably was called Mark! They have a strange taste in names - they go up a letter in the alphabet each year - I went to see a horse called Vera who was rising 4 in 2005 so if you work back from V that might be it.

dont you have any dutch paperwork for him?

No the person I bought him off bought him off a dealer (based in this country - but they have a lot of horses from Holland). I don't think this dealer has the best reputation

His passport was done by the person before me so his age is guessed on what the dealer told her they thought it was.

Thank you!! I couldn't find anywhere to enter the long chip number so I have sent them an email! I think he is 14 this year. When he was pre purchase vetted in 2005 the vet thought from he teeth he was between 12 - 15. Previous owner thought he was 12 in 2005.

I always thought that the dealer called him Mark (as apparently they call their horse's people names). However it would be funny it that was his Dutch name! I have always imagined it to be something grand but then if they could call a horse Vera then I suppose they could call one Mark!!

Thanks for your help everyone. Hopefully I will get a reply from the email I sent and find out about his life in Holland!!

The names also aren't unique unlike other studbooks. There are 14 Valentinos at least and there were loads of Olympics so your lucky you've got a microchip, otherwise you wouldn't have a clue

Freshman - your horse sounds lovely... I agree they definitely could have come up with a better name! Do you have any pics of your horse?

DD - Did you used to own Super Kat's Olympic? I remember she bought him off someone on HHO. He looks a fab showjumper!

Take a note of your microchip number and contact the KWPN and see if they have a horse under the number.

Dutch are not always the best at naming......we have a mare called "Linda"......and that is her registered KWPN name.......LOL
