Duvets!!

Yes we used to put a duvet under the fully clipped hunters and pointers rugs.
Put duvet high up on horse's neck, put rug over the top, fasten rug and turn top of duvet back over the rug, that way it doesnt slip.

I used to do this all the time. Just pull it forward a bit so that it sticks out the front of the rug, then fold it back once you've put the rug on. Do the belly straps up so they aren't hanging loose and it should stay put

I mite try this. What if you have an attached neck cover will it still work if you turn the duvet over?

I don't use one yet as its not cold enough here, I put a cotton sheet on, then the (double) duvet, then the rug, fold duvet back over the rug. I make sure its taken off during the day as its warmer then, and I don't use the very high tog rating ones or the horse will overheat.

No it will be too bulky under the base of the neck cover I think.

For the last few winters i have used a double quilt and i pull it right up behind Flints ears and fold over the front under the stable rug.It only slipped back a little bit by morning, and was very warm for my lad.

Always use duvets so much cheaper, use an elasticated surcingle over the top rug to keep it all in place.

That's how I use them too. So far have never had any move or slip overnight.

at the old yard a girl did this for her older horse, and he wuld have it on no matter what the weather, as soon as they were in her would have it on, he must have been boiling. i wouldn't use one yet as it might get alot colder and they wouldn't feel any benefit

Masta actually make a duvet rug which is a lot easier during the reaaaally cold bits of winter, but down at Bec's yard yes, old duvets are used
