E and L horse insurance veiws please??

Several years ago i had to take a friends horse to Liphook, whilst i was there i asked the vet which insurance company they would advise me to go with (had just bought a new horse). . . . The answer was "There all pretty similar really, just don't use e&l " There was even a notice up in the reception area warning people not to use them, not sure if it's still there.

I have been with them for 3 years and claimed twice, they were a bit slow to pay but never had any problems. My claim went on for 6 months and was over £3K. the other was for less and was paid alot quicker. I was warned off them but I can only grumble about how long they took to pay, my vet was fine about it though as I did say I would start paying it if they took too long, also to pay the first 17.5% is the vat and I think alot of insurers wont pay the vat on a bill. All insurance has some excess.

Well beyond 25 foot. We had a complete nightmare when we were insured with them as Cass had to go and have bone scans at Cambridge, and they agreed to it all in advance. It took forever to sort out and we had to take them to the insurance ombudsman in the end. Think it took about 18 months, but because the vet refused to deal with them, mum had had to pay the vet bills herself by credit card. The interest was astronomical as you can imagine. I would never ever touch E&L again. I got my last vet on the subject and he was very damning (I had moved to Petplan by then - who were brilliant)!

I'm with NFU now. I've had successful and easy claims with Petplan's veteran plan (including euthanasia of horse) too though their premiums weren't cheap...

Agree with everyone else - my friends have have trouble getting payments out of them. Im with the NFU and they have been absoultely brilliant and deal directly with the vets

Also when my 2month old trailer got stolen within 2 weeks we had a cheque for the value of a brand new trailer so we were able to replace it straight away

Am currently in the process of a claim with them...... the biggest nightmare ever....... 5 months before they even decided to accept liability, and as I couldn't afford the treatment the horse had to wait this period of time also! But now 7 months on still no payments have been received and after surgery the vets wouldn't let the horse leave until I paid the bill, I am seriously now in debt!

Poor you.

I've only ever insured my horses with Petplan and have to say that they've been brill with paying claims within days, no quibble.

Hope you can get E&L to cough. Is there an Insurance Ombudsman or maybe Trading Standards can help?

This many people can't be wrong about a company.

I did earlier post wont bore you with details again but I had to write to the manager and my vet sent in a letter of complaint backing up my claim. They did pay out eventually.Unfortunately I am now claiming again to the tune of £3000 they agreed to the anaesthetic but Im waiting to see if they pay out.I had to agree to make full payment in 2 months because of the reputation of the company.Dont back down write to the ombudsman I threatend to do this and they paid up they just try it on.You have to be persistent and write down every phone call time and details to back up your claim. They said I hadnt informed them fortunately I had written down dates and times and they couldnt argue What surgery did your horse have mine went for hock fusion.Let me know how it works out maybe we should get a solicitor to work for us both lol
