Following my previous post were ins co tried to reject my claim after they had originally agreed to hock spavin surgery I thought you might like to know after appeals and lots of phone calls e and l have finally agreed to pay out.Just shows you have to be persistent. Thanks for all the support.

You always have to be persistent with them. The problem is many people aren't and give up and that's what E&L rely on!

change insurance company after you've got the cheque

same thing happened to me with a dog policy and the minute my bank told me that their cheque had cleared I insured the dogs with NFU and cancelled the e&l policy

Lady t couldnt agree more
Reynold I have a year of follow up treatment so Im not in the position to do that at the moment.Same thing happened to me in 2006 and 2007 having follow up treatment for ligament and tendon.
Rach ntabby my surgery was in jan keep making phone calls or they will delay.I havent had the money yet just signed the agreement but normally payment goes to vet direct.

I read H&H this week & apart from an E&L flier that fell out of the mag there were a further 3 adverts in the magasine. With all the complaints that go to this company it's a wonder that H&H magasine allow them to advertise in their publications!

I have always wondered that about H&H, how do they allow them to advertise in their mag knowing full well what they are like?! Glad someone else noticed!!!

I reckon they spend so much on advertising and that's why they can't settle claims (they have no money left!)

They also have fliers and several ads in Your Horse magazine every month too

If there are enough complaints about any insurance co. the Financial services authority will investigate even anon. complaints.www.fsa.gov/register or tel 0845 606 1234.Look under Regulator in the complaints section of your insurance document. You can also write to the ombudsman or manager.
I think to many people give up to easily hope you get your cheque soon mine has another zero on the end figure so it was vital that I won payment.

This company has had a bad reputation for as long as i can remember. It just amazes me how they are still in business when so many people seem to know how bad they are! I think they prey on new horse owners!! I work for an insurance company too and everyone knows about them. We even have some previous employees of theirs working for us now so I know how their 'system' works!!!

Your right I was a new horse owner(nearly 3 years ago)This system would it be refuse to pay unless customer appeals.Fortunately I have won every case but it wears you down when you have a horse that needs attention and you are unsure of spiralling costs.

One of our neds had to go into hospital recently and on the paperwork it states " any horse insured with E & L will be deemed to be uninsured"

That seems to be getting common. My OH's practice now has a notice to that effect in reception... copying local referral practice. Referral Practice wasn't Western Counties was it?

Last year when my horse had colic and had to be pts, the vets said I had to settle with them not my insurance company as I was insured with E&L. It took 7 months and 2 letters of complaint but eventually they settled the claim.

Had same problem with my dog rather than horse. Huge bill that took almost 10 months to settle. Luckily I could afford to wait for settlement but if you can't...just wrong

I had to agree to pay vet if they didnt settle I also had to get a letter confirming they would pay and they still tried to wriggle out of payment.

We have a Veterinary Practice and now won't do any Insurance work for Clients that have E & L insurance because when they don't pay up the clients feel it is up to use to chase E & L which is absolutely pointless as you all know! Most of our horse clients have now changed insurance companies. E & L stands for EXCUSES & LIES
