Let put it this way due to both their reputation and members experiances which include mine, everytime I read a title like the one in this post I suspect troll
I was insured with them and they did pay out for treatment on my navicular syndrome horse - eventually. Very slow but they werent too bad. But I wouldnt chance my luck again .... both my farrier and vet grimaced when I told them who i was insured with ... which tells a million stories
I was and still am insured with them. Tiggy was insured with them, and when I lost her, dealing with them was painful. They did pay out, after a little argy-bargy, but the whole process made a bad time worse, in my experience
Now with NFU for Dizzy. So far so good. Though they were quite understandably miffed that she went wonky so soon after being insured with them!
But to give them their due, they paid out without quibble once they had all the relevant paperwork. Only thing with them is sometimes they're not great at answering the phone.
Must move the other two over: I didn't realise that they are actually insured for a pittance re. vets fees!
They have a poor reputation for trying to wriggle out of paying, but my vet commented that they have got new management and have a new policy of actually paying now...
But personally I would prefer to be with an insurer who has ALWAYS had a policy of paying valid claims. I'm with Amtrust and can't recommend them highly enough - am on my 2nd big claim at the moment and they pay with lightning speed and are nice to deal with
Nooooo keep well away! I'm with NFU and have been for a number of years, haven't actually had to claim yet but they have a good reputation. Petplan good too.
NFU definately are taking new clients and despite other rumours I've heard before you don't need to have other insurance with them. I just set up a new equine policy yesterday with them. Were cheaper than Scottish equestrian renewal quote and better cover. I've been with NFU before.
First off I have no connection with e & l. I bought my horse 18 mths go and insured with them cos I saw their ad. When I saw comments on forums I thought I'd made a big mistake. So when horse got kicked and fractured splint bone I was really worried.
But...they were great , really helpful on the phone, let my claim run over two insurance years and sounded really concerned about us whenever I rang to ask anything.
Eventually he got right and I sent the final bill in and they paid up nearly £1000 within weeks with no quibble at all.
So you can only speak as you find but I am more than happy with their service.
I have noted the comments on this forum with interest. I am the claims Manager at E and L insurance and even though I am not able to answer the question directly I would like to address some of the issues raised in this forum.
I am aware that our reputation due to our claims handling in the past has not been very posative. I would however like to assure any E and L (or potential) customer that we do not and have never attempted to "wriggle out" of any claim. As an insurance company we are governed by very strict rules that mean we have to comply with our terms and conditions and general insurance law. We pride ourselves in always making the right decision even if sometimes it takes a little time to do so. We belive that every claim is individual and do not buy into the current climate of mass claims handling. Rest assured that every claim is dealt with by an individual to ensure we achive the correct results.
I also understand that the time we take to issue payment on claims has not met our customers expectations. We are currently doing everything we can to drive down waiting times, and recently have seen a dramatic improvement in this area, however we wiare comited to continue to drive down waiting times until they are at the desirable level.
I would welcome anybody feedback or question regarding the above or any other issue regarding E and L, and you can contact me by e-mailing claims@eandl.co.uk.
eg...sending you out claim forms to fill in, then when you do that a couple of weeks later sending out a letter to ask for photocpies of passports.....
....why not do it all at the same time?
It took about 3 months from telling me my claim would be paid out to actually receiving the money....unacceptable in my book.
Also....try trying to get hold of anyone.....never respond to e-mails or letters unless its to ask for information you have already supplied.
Too frustrating to deal with when you have a sick/injured horse.
Needless to say...as soon as the cheque was cashed I swapped insurers.
