Hope its OK to post this here.
Please sign this e-petition.
It is trying to ban the 'sale' of free pets, 'free to good home' etc on major selling sites.

I found this on Facebook but thought I'd share it here as I have seen a few posts relating to similar subjects and thought there may be a few people out there who would be interested in signing and sharing the petition.

And a Facebook page has been set up to spread the word too.

Thanks!

What's this hoping to achieve? People get stuck with pets they can't rehome or start offering them for $1. If its welfare - you would be better urging authorities to come down hard on anyone and everyone involved.

No. I've had two cats from Preloved for free. I wouldn't have paid for them. Personally I think they should ban the ones that charge hundreds of pounds for a puppy farmed dog. If there weren't any free dogs the dog baiters would pay more or steal more.

I just get fed up generally with legislation on everything. Ban this ban that. Introduce this, you must do that. It only ever affects decent people anyway. The ones its trying to target carry on as they please anyway.

On balance, I think the petition and idea a poor one. People do genuinly find themselves in positions where they need to rehome their animals. And on line is a good way to do it. Obviously it's beholdent on the advertiser that the animal goes to a good home. But with the advent of the internet, a note in your local shop window just doesn't cut it any more.

This is pointless. You get this through and people can still advertise for £1 to get round it. Are you then going to try and get legislation to demand people put a higher minimum value on their pets? How would this be workable?

No, all our dogs have been private re homing off preloved from families who genuinely could not keep them any more and wanted a good home. Still in touch with one who asks for updates. They would have been PTS otherwise

I think this is an inherently bad idea. I don't like seeing the posts "free to good home" all over the place, but banning those posts will not solve the issue.

What needs to be done is far more tightening up on dog fighting rings, back yard breeders, even some registered breeders (a KC registered breeder recently allowed all of the litter to be taken to new homes at 5 weeks of age. The complained that my friend waited until 7 weeks and she ignored my advice to walk away), puppy farms that get celebrity endorsement and keep litters of puppies in Perspex boxes like shop windows.

The whole approach to responsible breeding and owning needs to be addressed...not just banning something that will, in all probability end in the issue just being transferred to something else as another poster said....higher theft rate of dogs etc.

We are the result of our own making...we can't just bring the hammer down under the misconception that we are doing good by the animals. The only way to do good by the animals is to educate people and change the laws surrounding breeding and selling, among other things.

Sorry for the mini rant, but we all need to wake up to our mistakes and take some responsibility.

This.

The ones i personally abhore are the ones that say things like 'would be good to breed from' 'not been 'fixed' '

They make me want to hurt people!
