Well i will start off with Saturday as we hired Eaglesfield out as they already had the jumps up for the show the next day. Senza jumped like a star!! She is using herself so much better now she has the Myler in and is not smacking me in the face anymore. We had the jumps ranging from 80cm up to 1.10 and in the whole hour we had 3 jumps down and 2 of those were my fault!!! So i started to get really excited about Sunday.

Sunday i went to get her in from the field, before i had even got out the field she decided she didn't want to come in so spun round with me still attached to the leadrope and double barelled me missing me chest by about 4 inches!! I managed to keep hold of her but she ripped my finger to pieces in the process. Que a good hiding!!! Great start ah??

Got to Eagles field and had to wait a class but luckily there were only 16 people in it. Senza was less than impressed though and decided to tank off with me twice rodeoing and smashing the warm up fence down in the process!! I wasn't even in the warm up so there were quite a few spectators diving for cover.

Anyway i didn't even walk the course for the 85cm coz i couldn't trust her enough to let anyone hold her so i learnt it from the sidelines. She went in to have a beautiful round (if not a little bit excitable) and we had 1 jump down due to me asking for a long one but her wanting to put in a short one so that was my fault.

We had to wait ages for class 2 and Senza was getting very aggitated and tired and started to really annoy me by pushing me over every 5 seconds (i had to get off and hold her coz she was stressing out with me on her).

Class 2 (95cm) finally arrived, we came up to No1 and 2 strides out she decided to have a napping fit (a new little trick she has learnt). Any way i pushed her on from about a stride away and we had that one down. She then shot off into no2 and mid air spooked at something knocking the jump down. As she landed she then shot to the side and the took off again (dont ask me how i didn't come off). Jumped no3 & 4 fine but the spooked shooting off to the side again and stopping dead. I nearly did go over the handle bars this time so i gave her a few hard whacks with my reins and carried on. She jumped the rest beautifully and cleared everything by about a foot!! Went through the finish line and someone came out of the ring side cafe and again we shot off across the ring!!

So even though she jumped really well and we had a much better result than the last time we went out (3 knocks and 4 kncoks) the sillyness and spooking ruined it a bit but in all fairness she hasn't been out in 2 months and she had to wait ages for her classes so i am hoping next time she will be better behaved.

Well done though!

Keep at it

With a few more outings hopefully she'll settle

Sounds like you had an interesting time

Still, she went very well on saturday, and sounds like the antics on sunday were just baby'ish behaviour

She will settle, she just needs to get out as much as possible so it isn't always a new and exciting thing

It's hard not having a lorry to leave them in when at a show. I hate holding mine. Sounds like you wound each other up waiting for your class. You must be really pleased with her though.

I am really pleased with her, especially as she is using herself so much better now and i think thats why we are not having as many down. It's made me realise how harsh the pelham actually was for her coz she was too afraid to stretch out where as now she doesn't mind.

Class 2 i generally think she was tired and thats why all the silly behavour so i cant blame her really as like you say she is only a baby and we was waiting a long time.

Roll on the summer as i am hoping to get her out a lot more then and maybe start winning some of my entry fees back LOL.

It was annoying not having the lorry there as i couldn't put her in it so she could eat and chill away from the crowds.

Plus she always has a 2 best mates with her at shows and they wasn't there yetserday so i think that upset her a bit too as she kept calling out which she dont usually do.

What you need is a good cross country schooling session! Fingers crossed for some good weather.

Sounds as though she is really enthusiastic about her jumping but perhaps needs to learn to back off her fences a little. Some solid XC fences fences should do the trick (but hopefully not scare her).

The more you get her out doing various things the better, she will get to see lots more and learn to take things in her stride rather better (supposedly anyway). I know what you mean about hanging around though, my horse is really not good at that either! I think that people often make it worse though by standing right in the way and not getting out of the way when they should.

Busy weekend you had!!
I am sure she will settle better the next time you go out, if it was a couple of months since your last show. Flo was so sharp at first dressage show just after Xmas, and yesterday when she went back to same venue she was like a different horse, v laid back.
Sounds like your changing the bit was the right thing to do. How did you come to change to a myler, last I heard it was some sort of straight bar you were using???
Seems to be working anyway though.

Fiona

Hi Fiona

The Myler is a straight bar. Its the Mullen mouth version. She is working so well in it at the mo but i am sure that will all change again LOL.

I'm pretty sure it was coz she hasn't been out in ages, plus she wasn't with her friends and we had to wait around for ages. She is usually quite laid back at shows as she gets to chill on the lorry to but i didn't have that there either.

I am still really pleased with the way she jumped though as its such an improvement. Not even bothered about the naughtiness either really it was just the spookiness that put a downer on things as she is usually so good and she had been there the day before but never mind. She still jumped everything so i will just have to make sure i wear me sticky bum jods next time for when she lands LOL
