I was thinking of trying an ear bonnet on my pony for hacking to muffle sound a little, local farmer is using rook scarers to protect his emerging maize crop and the sound frightens the life out of both myself and pony, its set well back off the road but the sound echoes and is super loud at certain points, he is used to the noise throughout the day when stabled but when we are merrily plodding along we can get caught unawares ?, my only fear is that they can sometimes cause the bridle to slip off, he loves to put his head down to scratch his nose on his leg and after a traumatic incident as a child where after a spectacular spook my ponys bridle came off and he took off full pelt round the village and I had no way of stopping him I am a little wary! Are there any out there that fit under the browband but go over the headpiece? He wears a miklem bridle, thanks

You will need an acoustic bonnet as the ordinary fly veils are just that - for flies. A bit difficult with a Micklem as they don't have the throat lash in the traditional place which would stop your bridle from coming off if secured properly

You could maybe add ties and secure it to the headpiece and/or brow band wearing it over the top of the bridle?
I’m thinking along the lines of Equilibriums riding mask?! (Which itself won’t effect noise but the fitting part could be copied)

I do have an ordinary bridle so could swop back to that, LeMieux do some nice noise cancelling ones I could try, thank you

Off to Google those thank you ?

They can also cause pressure points so check for that as well. I hate the bird scarers - I'm worse than my horse which isn't terribly helpful!

Me too, went for a quick hack this morning, it was windy and he is extra spooky in the wind so already set myself up for a fail before I got on, but pushed on and did it before I untracked and changed my mind but the whole ride I was tense waiting for the scarers to go off, even singing didn't help my nerves, typically they haven't been activated this morning so all good, even sitting in my garden the frighten the life out of me as they are in the field behind.

I use earplugs on mine, I find they work better than the acoustic ears. The bridle coming off is a big problem. If you are going to try them I found the Equiline one good.

That machine the farmer uses sounds like its verging on breaching a bunch of ‘public peace’ laws....for it to even cause you to not want to be in your garden.
I have a decibel metre and would record the level of the boom it makes, maybe you can record the sound on your phone and speak to maybe citizens advice, aswell as the farmer?
What interval time is it set to go off?

I remember the bird scarer boomers as a kid and back then they werent too bad. Like a low, distant, muffled gunshot, despite the field being near our house. It would go off about once every 20-30 mins.

No these definitely make you feel like you've been shot point blank, they haven't gone off today either so maybe someone complained or its broken, might have a chat with him just so I can get a heads up when they are likely to be turned on and the frequency so I can plan hacks around that ?
