A pony in our yard has recently become very sensitive of one of his ears when being tacked up. I think I an see white build up near the base of his ear but he won't really let us look!!! Do horses get ear mites?? Is it treatable in horses???

Thanks!!

just done a quick net search for you and yes horses can get ear mites if you can try and get something in there to wipe the ear with as you should be able to see the ticks/mites in there if there are any it is treatable if it is. If they look like white warts I have seen these in my horse and several other horses and its from flies in the ears which can be prevented by again attempting to wipe the ears clean of any flies and then put a fly mask on the horse in the field and I also ride in a fly veil when its hot and there are lots of flies around. Hope this has helped if in doubt can always phone a vet and ask for over the phone advice if you don't want a call out fee
