Anyone any experience of ear mites and how to treat. I can only presume it's mites he has developed a twitch (looks as though he has got tourettes) have used lice powder on mane and forelock but obviously not in ears and it appears to make no difference. Any advice gratefully received.

From experience with leg mites I dont think lice powder works on them, never had them in ears though. With legs clippers are the best option for prevention and our vet recommends frontline for treatment.

I wouldn't be putting anything in the ears though. Not without at least speaking to your vet first.

Never found lice powder to work for mites (although that was leg not ears!)
My cob suffers with leg mites and she get's jabbed with ivermectin which works wonders for her (I know this is ear not leg, but would imagine it would do the same thing)- possibly worth asking your vet about it?

There could be many reasons for the twitching it sounds like headshaking which needs some investigating, if it is his ears the vet will have something to treat them with but as rockysmum said do not put powder in his ears.

Had the vet to my boy and she says the problem is ear mites. Steroid injection and ear drops. Since having ear drops in today for the first time he has got much worse does anyone know if this is normal and what do the drops do to the mites and where do they go if the drops kill them.
