My mare that I bought 9wks ago has developed a headshaking problem(vetted and came from a friend, so know her history).
It almost like she has a foreign body stuck in her ear, mainly when ridden. The vet has ruled out that she is a head shaker. there is a small ulcerated area in her middle ear so she has had a mite jab, penicillin and bute.
Today under heavy sedation she tried to put a scope and camera down unfortunately this was unsuccessful due to the fact she kept shaking her head. There is some wax and its a bit "gunky" but apparently unusual for horses to get a wax build up unlike humans.
next step ear drops(which are for small animals as so rare for horses), bitless bridle then more anti biotics. If this fails then either CT scan or GA at my surgery.
Does anyone else have experience of this? she is 15yr old ID 16.2 hh grey with melanomas on her dock but no change for almost 4 yrs now in either shape or size .
