For those that remember us...

I've really not been on here much in 2009 other than lurking. So many new members! There's still some usernames I remember. Well, hopefully some of you may remember me and my young cob Earl and for those that don't, see post below if you're interested.

Sorry I haven't posted much, between working full time and working hard to improve my riding...

2009 has been such an amazing year for me. I can't believe I have been lucky enough to find such an amzing little horse. I hadn't ridden for 10 years when I bought him in April 2008.
I pottered around with him in 2008 and went to a few very quiet, local shows building our confidence. I really enjoyed the bit of showing we did so in 2009 I decided to take it a bit more seriously.

In May I attended Show Ring Camp organised by FMM on here. We came on leaps and bounds in those 4 days. He matured so much mentally and by mid-week had learnt to cope with so many other horses around him. I really can't recommend it enough. We won our first class the weekend after camp!

I had toyed with the idea of doing Search for a Star with him at some point and when Horse Magazine gave me the opportunity to have a lesson and makeover with Katie Jerram, I jumped at the chance, although I feared it was probably a year too soon for us to be ready for any qualifiers.
What can I say? Katie worked onders on him, changed my tack etc. Earl made it in to Horse Magazine!

To my delight (and astonishment), in August, Earl qualified for the SFAS Cob final held at HOYS!

In the run-up to HOYS we had fantastic results at Equifest and BSHA National Champs. Shows where I never dreamed of getting a look in, yet we were stood shoulder to shoulder with HOYS/RIHS Cobs.

At HOYS, all our hardwork and lessons paid off. My little cob took me around the Caldene Arena like he'd been doing it all his life. He has grown up so much this year. The most amazing moment of my life so far, was when the commentator called out our number. We were 4th!!!!

We got to do a lap of honour at HOYS! I'm still on cloud 9.

What an amazing boy! I had no idea back in 2008 what a superstar he was going to be. I'd also like to thank my friends and family, who supported and advised along the way! I can't wait to get to some County Shows in 2010.

Thank you for reading

I'll start posting more often again!

Well done - he's a super chap and I look forward to hearing more about his successes in 2010!

Do you know his breeding by any chance? I guess this is a silly question with cobs - they could be ID x or Connie x or "haven'tgotaclue" x.

Good luck!

I'm not normally a cob lover, but his movement is beautifully correct & he's such a proper cob - I am thrilled for you!

What a lovely story! I don't think I've read about your cob before but well done you!!! Amazing to have had so many successes in one year. He's a beautiful boy and I'm sure you will have a fantastic 2010

He's a cob X cob, so a real mixture!

I went to visit his breeder after we qualified. I met Earl's sire who looks very much like him but is white with lot's of feather. The breeder really breeds driving cobs.

According to the breeder, Earl has alot of Clydesdale (hence the blagdon markings), Welsh sec D and hackney!!! He didn't inherit the knee action

Welsh - that explains the nice head, most definately not a clydie one

The sabino (blagdon) markings could come from either clydie or welsh as they both carry the gene.

I do love your boy - I could almost be tempted from my hairy stinky for him.

Hope to see you at shows next year.

I do remember you and your boy, so nice to see how far you've come on so quickly. Really well done on all your massive achievements over the last year, and i look forwards to hearing about many more in the year to come

Thank you so much everyone for your lovely comments. He really is a horse of a lifetime.
Considering he is only a baby himself, he's been so understanding, such a fantastic confidence-giver and we have learned everything together. I still have a long way to go on my riding but I've worked really hard this year and know there has been a huge improvement.

It just shows that you can achieve your dreams / goals. Maybe with a little help from people to point you in the right direction, but none-the-less possible! I did, however, spend lot's of money on lessons / new tack / showing gear etc... EEK!
