After much debate on whether or not to go to the Royal London Show, I decided that although neither Earl or I were really ready for a big show, we would go as an education for both of us! (We had tried Equifest a couple of weeks before but I chickened out of competing as I was so nervous and Earl was a bit overwhelmed with all the new things to look at!)

The first class was the late qualifier/warm up cob class. We had already qualified but thought we could do with a warm up. He was quite sharp when we got there and was dying for a big buck and squeal so he went on the lunge to get it out of his system. By the time he got to the class his burst of energy was gone so he was a little flat but he went around sweetly and didn't frighten himself with the new surroundings (his first time seeing a grandstand). He was such a good boy

then unfortunately, we were asked to change the rein which meant we were in front. He lacks confidence in front so is not very forward going at all, trying to wait for the others, bless! It was really hard work keeping him going. We got pulled in 6th which I was happy with and thought was very fair. When the ride judge got on him, he went beautifully!

It was his first time with a ride judge too! I wish he went for me like that!

I told her he was only 4 and she rode him very nicely (not like me bumping around awkwardly on him!) but did give him a tap at the beginning. Stripped he is always good as he is clean limbed and has an athletic walk. Final pull in...... We came 4th!

I was thrilled! Judges comments is he needs to be more forward going.

Next class was in the afternoon. Champions of Britain Lightweight Cob. Forward going he definitely was!!!!

Indoor arena for the first time. What a good boy... He was so nervous and tense when we first got in there. I patted his neck and sung to him under my breath. I could feel a buck brewing so thank goodness we were asked to trot on in the nick of time! He REALLY tanked! But thanks to the new pelham from hellybelly I had alot more control. We were spilt for the gallop as there were 19 of us. He was ready for the gallop and did his best one yet! He's normally not sure what I want but he was very ready to let rip at gallop time!

We were pulled in 7th which I was over the moon with as there were plenty of nice cobs behind us. After judges ride and stripped, we were pulled in 6TH!!!!!!!!!! I was soooooo happy, I couldn't believe it!

I think he was patted and kissed within an inch of his life!

Sorry to go on, but so happy as we only achieved an outline about a month ago!

He's fabulous! I love him.. Very well done!

Am just embarking on my search to find my HW cob and am very excited!

Once you have the first big show out of the way it all gets easier too..

Thank you everybody! He is a fantastic horse with so much personality and has given me so much confidence!

AutumnRose, To get bright white legs like that you need a lot of patience (and Tesco Aloe Vera shampoo)! Then I use white chalk powder mixed with a little water to make a paste and paint them up. Get those sunglasses out!

RosiiePimms,
I have only had him since April, and only been riding again since then too! I had'nt ridden for about 10 years!!!

I live in London during the week, so my mum rides him out with her racehorses leading the string.

I have only been to about 5 shows with him, quite well spaced out but will do more next year! I'd like to do working cob with him too but I'm not sure I'm brave enough yet!

I also want to hunt him but may wait until next season now as it could blow his brain.

I will keep him going over the winter and try some dressage with him. I have been told that prejudices stop cobs from doing really well at dressage but I think the practice will do us good for nerves, working together etc...

Wooo, well done!! I am so happy for you - he is a smashing lad, as I have already said. Did you manage to get hold of that AH article I was telling you about? If not, I will get you a copy of it so you and your mum can pin it up in pride of place, lol.

As for galloping - he should know better considering his stable mates, lol, get them to teach him a few things!

Well done again, I am soo happy - doing a mad happy dance, lol!
