Early fitness stages without hacking

Hi Guys,

Looking for some suggestions and pointers. My livery yard is on lock down because of flu and strangles in the area (possibly an overreaction IMHO, never once passed another horse in the field or on the road out hacking) and we are not permitted to hack or take the horses out of the yard. That leaves the school, and potentially one of the summer fields to ride in, permission dependant.

I let my guy down in December, January ended up being a battle of me having the flu, frozen school, snow and then an abscess. Finally ready to start doing some bits again but I would normally hack a lot this time of year to get fitness up. Been doing a combination of in-hand and walking around the school (pretty boring :)). Can long line/ride up and down the 200m drive at a push too.

I don't need to get this horse galloping fit, but given he is a sensitive TB I need to get him back to a decent base level before we can start focussing on the schooling again.

Anyone in the same boat, maybe lacking hacking and at the early stage of getting horses back into work what do you do/suggest?

Thank you!

Ive long lined over raised poles to build muscle on a horse that wasn't safe to hack . Did a good job ready for me to get back on. Obviously won't build cardiovascular fitness but can help with muscling
