Who else goes riding on the roads before work? I was up at 6am waiting on the sun to slightly show before a 30min hack along the roads as the nights are getting shorter, my poor horse was soo shocked getting a bit in her mouth instead of her breakfast! Also how do you work it with 2 horses? i dont have a sand school and all my fittening in winter is done on the roads, currently its riding 1 in the morning and then in the afternoon, but it wont last long just be the mornings!

You got a friend who could help out?
I rode this morning - in the school because just didn't have time to take him on a hack. I feel great today!

Do ride out on the roads a little bit, however tend to find people up at that time are not expecting to see horses out and unfortunately are often in a rush and dont have time to consider space.

Although there are a lot less people on the roads.

I do like it as "they" are going to work and I'm riding - albeit going to work later! and often you get a nice smile from someone who looks like they wish they were riding out too.

I have been known to do early morning rides before work just as the sun comes up..... tack up in the dark and set off at first light. Best time of day!
However not at my current yard so much as I have to go down a road to get to bridleway... and its gloomy on a good day as lined with big trees.

Am moving to new yard in 2weeks - direct access to bridleways from yard (without having to go down a road) so if sun is only just rising / its a bit gloomy still, i only have wildlife to contend with, not half-asleep drivers, YAY

Me and OH hack out most mornings before work but we do have offroad hacking from our farm track so dont have to worry about traffic. as soon as its light enough to see where we are going- we are off

Could you not ride one and lead the other?

In the depths of winter I always leave home at 7 a.m which is usually dark and exercise for an hour before work. My horses are very good at seeing in the dark and thank god we have a massive estate to ride over with no roads.

OH being a lowly paid hunt servant def. has its perks!!
