earring found in feed!

I found a (fake) diamond earring in the feed I was giving ned yesterday to keep him quiet for the farrier. It's a big chunky thing with a long back. Ive asked around and no ones lost one (that they're admitting to).
should I contact the feed company? Ive forgotten who it was, but I can easily check. Lucky I was holding the feed and saw it! Could have choked or hurt him :-(

what should I do?
 
If your sure it was in with a new batch of feed, i would contact the feed company. Its not the first time a foreign object has been in with animal feed. I would be bad for checking feed as its used in future too.

Should add, keep a hold of it as the feed company may want to see it.
 
If it belongs to nobody at your yard then contact the feed company. You could phone, or e-mail and attach a picture of the earring. Take it from there, most companies are usually pretty good at responding and compensating as necessary. Keep the earring too, you never know, one of the workers may want it back! :p
 
Even if it wasn't the feed companies fault it can't harm to contact them anyway I don't think, if it makes them do extra checks then all the better for the horses :)

Yea, it was pretty much brand new. My friend had bought it last week and had given a small amount to Viking, one of the TBs who's fed often. Ned never gets feed and I was using it to keep him quiet. Only my friend and I have used it, and it's not her earring.

I've kept it and unless someone owns up at the yard, I'll write a letter and send it off :)
 
I found a a dead dried up blackbird in a bag of chaff once, I took a photo of it and sent it to the makers. They apologised and sent a £20 voucher for their brands of feed :D
 
i had a pallet of shavings from a well known manufacturer and three of the bales had broken up latex gloves right through them, i phoned the company and had a new pallet delivered the next week! ive also had huge chunks of molassed feed in a bag and almost no feed and rang the manufacturers again and had 4 bags delivered as compensation. it does help that my local feedstore who delivers all my supplies phoned for me too and is extremely helpful . never had a diamond earing tho -makes you wonder what sort of people work in the feed factory that wear huge diamond earings to work! lol x
