Ok, so my cob hates his face mask, we have a tussle every night to put it on and every morning he has stamped it in the grass! LOL Typical Bloke.

So can anyone recommend any cream/lotions or magic potions to help me get rid of the flies in his ears!

I wish he understood that his mask helps his ears, i have explained this to him on several times he just doesn't seem to understand. His girlfriend loves hers but she does look pretty in it.

Avon Skin So Soft dry body oil is great for keeping the midges out of ears. Not sure if it keeps the flies away as well.

A slick of the good old 'summer fly cream' that you can get for about £7 keeps flys out of the ears for two or three days. Only problem is - your horse will have yellow ears (on the inside). It obviously wears off - not so dramatic on a bay but on my mare's white ear it is very obvious. Keeps the flies out though.

The pot is just a round white tub with a blue label - says for cattle/livestock etc.

I use Nettex Itch Stop or NAF D-Itch in my mare's ears. It's oily so it doesn't feel cold so she doesn't object to me smearing it in there (she hated any other fly repellent gloop). It lasts for a good few days and you only need a tiny bit.

I think they are selling the Nettex stuff in small trial pots now which are lots cheaper than the big pots and would be plenty for this purpose:)

I like using Green Oils Healing Gel - works a treat. And you mention you put his mask on in the evenings and its off by morning? Could you not just put it on in the morning and take it off at night to give him a break from it?
