Ears -wwyd

A few years ago the Miniature Schnauzer I had developed a terrible ear infection, the vet thought it was probably environmental and not diet related. The prescription ear cleaner cleared up the worst of the infection but it just wouldn't resolve 100%. I ended up trying a probiotic ear wash that my pet supply store carried and it was nothing short of miraculous, his ears cleared up within two applications and stayed clean for the rest of his life, I swabbed them out once a week per the vet's instructions and they were never dirty again in his remaining two years and he had been a dog who had always had some gunk come out of ears when they were cleaned. The brand was Skout's Honor but I don't know if it is available outside of the USA. Perhaps there is a similar product available in your area.
 
My cocker gets yeasty ears on some foods - changing him back to a food I know he’s fine on clears it up alongside a course of cleaning and drops. I’ve also found that having him on nutripaws prebiotic has helped his intermittent general itchiness and anal glands too. I don’t think I’m just imagining the effect!

It was one bad one and the other was a bit. He went to his holiday home without his anti itch probiotic chews. They seem to help a lot but I forgot to pack them. He was almost 2 weeks without.

Yes, it cleared up with the wash and steroid drops, but I had caught it before it was too bad this time.
 
Our Cocker had really itchy, waxy yeasty-smelling ears for months that never completely cleared up, vet swabs came back inconclusive.

My other half bought some Thornit powder and we gave it a go and I was sceptical - but it completely cleared up and stayed that way, so maybe worth a try.
 
Just by way of an update, i think touch wood we have found the issue. I stripped all food back, and stopped giving him treats. Everything has gone back to normal for now, no itching and hair has regrown around his eyes. So it looks as though it was the Gravy bone biscuits that was causing the issue. Hes not going to be too happy, as thats the treats the vets give out .
