Easibed - anyone else used it?

Hey guys,

My welsh cob has just been changed onto Easibed after being on shavings for ages and he's soon to get rubber matting (Stable comfort mattress stuff, apparently will be here before Christmas, fingers crossed!)

Anyway, my stable has about 4 bags in it and that makes a lovely deep, solid bed. The only thing is I can't stand deep littering my bed and so give it a full muck out every morning - and this stuff takes me twice the time shavings does!! My horse pees in the middle of his bed and does about 3 poos and then walks about through them.

There are little pieces of poo EVERYWHERE and I find I'm talking much longer and being much fussier with this stuff than I ever was with shavings.

Does anyone else use Easibed and NOT deep litter? Or is that the only way to make it work efficiently? And also how much should I use when I get my matting? I refuse to use a full bed with the mats as that is totally defeating the purpose of having them but I know he can be a bit funny about peeing and it splashing his legs so I'll need to use a little bit

I've done that to Beau and he has the same toilet pattern as ur we monster :P. I just try not to disturb the bottom layer and take out as much as I can with my hands - im guessing u do the same cos I know u aint squeamish! then on a day when I have more time I go through it more thoroughly - usually with the radio on and away in a dwam

Oh, is the Farmer buying mats for everyone or did u just get yours yourself? I so want them, but cannot justify spending £300 on them!
 
I used to have the stuff and did not deep litter but I had a full bed and started it with 10 bales so it was sooooo deep that the wee did not penetrate down the bed and the bed hardly moved so the poop just sat on the top. I found it really quick and easy. I also bought in bulk (40 bales) so it was dirt cheep too.
 
No sorry, used Easibed at home and at work for some years but have given up on it now. It has advantages in that having been used it makes a lovely mulch for the garden and mixed with grit makes a decent lunge pen too but I've not found it sensible to use other than deep littering.

I did have a couple of horses on mixed easibed and shavings or you might try megazorb under the Easibed.
 
Lol sadly he's not buying them, I'm getting them as a birthday/christmas present combined because I grovelled with everyone to just give me money instead of presents. That horse better appreciate this!

I've been considering giving deep litter a go but I just really, really hate the final day when you do the full muck out - so wet and smelly and heavy and disgusting all on the bottom! Ugh!

How often do you dig yours out completely? God I can't wait for these mats
 
Well, thats a whole week its been down and its not getting lifted for at least a month as its a proper deep litter we are doing. I was taking out the wet weekly, but he only had enough to half fill a normal wheelbarrow! He isn't very wet at all though. Plus he is a lazy beggar and drags his feet through it so if I took it out every day he would be down to the bottom far too easily.

But I am beginning to realize that Pebbles drive you potty!!! And if you want to get them out use latex gloves - gardening ones are crap!
 
Haha yeah latex gloves seem to be the only way to go - I was just laughing yesterday at how Stacy used to use gloves to muck out but now I'm sitting here thinking about doing it too! Ah well, I have an endless supply of them at least, having a mum who works in A&E has its advantages

I've been mucking out a bed of Easibed for 2 months now while we wait for some mats. I really don't like it. The horse is really clean with it's wee, but poos for England and spreads it around, so deep littering is not an option. The reason I don't like it is that it is soooo heavy it makes my back ache!

I use it as a thin (2/3") bed on rubber mats for my horse though and really like it.
 
I Have to use easibed at my current yard and on the whole find it very good. Previously i had full matting in all my stables, mucked out in full every day & used a sprinkle of shavings. I do find the easibed works much better with the back mats removed. Its not the quickest absorbing bedding & therefore works much better if the rubber matting is removed at the back of my stables. This alows the easibed to do its job without the rubber matting geting in the way, otherwise the pee just finds its way under the rubber matting v quickly & just sits there. I skip out every day & do a full muck out every week. If the bed is left is works much better as the horses dont move it around so much. I do have a youngster who trashes his bed every nite but TBH he did the same on the previous bedding. I definitely find i use less bedding than when i was on just mats & shavings. I put down 2 mats at front of stable , 8 bales of easibed initially. then use between 1 & 2 per week when i dig out. hope this helps.
 
I have been using it for the past couple of months. It's very heavy but stays really clean with my mare (she is very clean) I dig it out weekly and only take about two barrows so I'm quite pleased. Echo it being so heavy it doesn't move. She has never gone through to the floor with it.
 
I started out on Easibed when I bought Jasper but a week later I changed to shavings, I didn't find Easibed that good. I now use Bedmax and stable matting which works a treat.
 
I ues eaybed on rubber as a little sprinkling over the top. Half a bucket does a 12/12 and it is very easy to do, and quick. I clear the whole lot daily, and can do 7 stables in 45 mins.
 
I used Easibed all last winter and the beginning of this winter, then got a load of Aubiose which was on offer. I would use either very happily, I think they are both great, but you do have to deep litter or the benefits don't manifest themselves. I start with 8 bales and skip out daily, with a full muck out (removing the bottom layer which contains the wet) once a week. Using this system I only use one bale a week. My daily skip out takes 10 minutes, and the weekly muck out, about 45 minutes.

I think my bed is the driest and most inviting on the yard! I have a mare that pees a lot but her bed is always dry on top even in the morning.
 
Hello, I bought 40 bales at a price of £3.71 per bale! considering they are around the £6 price normally i thought that was pretty good. PM me if you need any more details etc
 
I used it and also Nedzbedz and tbh I found it overpriced and hard work! It's absorbancy is great but you don't half notice it in weight when you muck it out! I've gone back to old fashioned plain old shavings for my gelding and even more old fashioned plain old straw for my mare and both are ok not as absorbant but hey my back thanks me for it...
 
I finally gave in last night and have started deep littering. I just really can't afford to be spending about 30mins mucking out his bed before work so as of this morning I started just skipping out the poop. I still hate knowing theres pee under there though. It's driving me mad!! But I just need to remind myself it's only until the mats arrive...please let the mats arrive soon...please??
