I didn't get along with it. Because it doesn't fluff up and expand like shavings I found myself putting in three bales a week to compensate so it worked out very expensive, plus I found it quite heavy when wet. I imagine it is very good for deep litter/semi deep litter as it seems to settle in well and stay put, but as I do a full muckout every day it wasn't ideal. It is fairly absorbent but no more than shavings I would say.

It's fairly absorbant, and all the wet sinks to the bottom which I find saves time on mucking out. I skip out every day, and remove the wet at the weekend, and put the bed up to air once a week as well.

My horse is fairly clean on it, and the wet stays under the clean shavings, and the droppings are easy to remove.
My mum's horse digs up her bed, and minces her droppings and so easibed isn't the best bedding for her.

You need to start off with a decent amount of bedding, then I use 2 bales a week through winter as my horse is in a lot of the time.

I was lucky and won about 40 bales of it a few years ago (so musnt complain!)

I did find that with horses who mix their beds up it is harder to sepearate the chips from the dung as the easybed is harder chips it helps to break up the dung, which shavings dont do.

They dont however stick to the droppings, like the fluffy shavings, so you may take out less and it didnt stick to her rugs and bandages as much.

Probably best for a cleaner horse on deep litter i would say!

I didn't find easibed absorbant enough.

I prefer fluffy shavings, much more absorbant. I only mat at the front of b's box and last year on easibed I was lifting the mats weekly to let the floor dry, otherwise pee would be running out the door under the mats. yuk.

This year on fluffy, i haven't lifted the mats yet and he's been in at nights since october.

Also find it easier to muck out fluffy as the bits drop through the fork easier than easibed. b likes to play hide the poo though!.

btw. one of the girls at our yard has just changed as well as she reckons, they have just changed the make up of easi. she thinks it's bigger bits and possibly treated. Her horse has been on it for a couple of years and suddenly taken some kind of reaction (bumpy tum) and she reckons the easibed is the cause.

ongo i also thought they had changed the easibed as i noticed about 3 weeks ago is was Smaller more fluffy stuff in the bale as im used to it being bigger bits, i thought it was a one off.. as my other bales have been normal .. but maybe they are fazing the old stuff out ?
i dont feel that easibed is very absorbant .
